Using Sandalwood For Cooking!

There is distinction even in wood. There are so many jungle wood, we can use it for cooking. But if the sandalwood, which is so valuable, if we do not know what is the value of sandalwood, if we use it for cooking and burning... Similarly, if we use this human form of life exactly like the cats and dogs, simply for sense gratification, then we are committing suicide.

This Is Called Prīti
So this is prīti. The more you chant, the more you become attached: "Let me chant more." Not disgusted, but "Let me chant more." This is called prīti.

You cannot stop old age and diseases, birth, death

Prabhupāda: Eh? You cannot! Can you help people to stop death? Or to stop disease? Or to stop old age? I am becoming old. Can you stop?

Robert Gouiran: I think so.

Prabhupāda: That is foolishness. If you think that you can stop my old age growing, then that is foolishness. It is not possible.

Robert Gouiran: I think there is a misunderstanding there.
Prabhupāda: No, no. I am... A man grows old. Can you stop it?

Robert Gouiran: I can't stop time, of course.

Prabhupāda: That is we are speaking, that you cannot do anything. Even in spite of your so-called health, you will grow old. You cannot stop it.

Robert Gouiran: So you don't think that somebody could be an instrument to help other?

Prabhupāda: What is that instrument if this instrument is blunt, or what is the use of that instrument? Simply possessing one instrument is sufficient? It must work, but if it does not work? You cannot stop death, you cannot stop birth, you cannot stop old age, you cannot stop disease.

We cannot be desireless. We cannot be silent. But our desires, our activities, have to be purified. That is real knowledge. That is real knowledge. We shall desire only to serve Kṛṣṇa. That is purification of desire. Not that desireless. That is not possible.

How I can be desireless? How I can be silent? That is also not possible. For a second, I cannot be silent. So then our activities should be engaged, dovetailed in Kṛṣṇa's service. This is real knowledge that, "I, as living entity, I have all these things, activities, desires, loving propensity. Everything is there. But that is being misguided." We do not know where to place all these things.

*Higher Than Philosophy!*

Philosophy is the highest, but even higher than philosophy is the practice of philosophy. So if you simply remain pure, your preaching will have effect.

Beginning The Drinking Business!

Madhudvisa: He wants to know how in the beginning, when we are starting to engage in Krsna consciousness, or devotional service to God, can you develop enthusiasm and sincerity.

Prabhupada: Yes. The thing is that if you want to become a drunkard, you mix with the people who drinks. Then you drink little, little, little. Then you become a big drunkard. Similarly, if you have got little sense that "I shall understand what is God," this very much qualification, if anyone only wants sincerely that "I will understand what is God," then your drinking business begins immediately.

Then if you continue, then as the drunkard becomes big drunkard, you become a big devotee. The beginning is that you must be little anxious that "How I can understand God?" This is the qualification. That's all. And if you are serious, then God is within you, He will give you intelligence. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita: tesam nityabhiyuktanam bhajatam priti-purvakam buddhi-yogam dadami tam [Bg. 10.10].

When God sees that you are sincere, He is within you, He will dictate, "You do like this, you do like this," and you will make advance.

Thinking Of Kṛṣṇa Is All Right
Thinking of Kṛṣṇa is all right, but if I think something which is not in Kṛṣṇa consciousness . . . . best thing is that I shall chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, and each word I shall hear; then it will be very much effective. Yes.
