😀 We’ve changed our mind

Many companies that laid off staff expecting AI to replace them are now bringing those workers back.

A new study shows → automation isn’t delivering at the scale executives were counting on.

Let’s train your focus! 🧠

Here’s one of the variations of the Schulte Table – one of the most popular methods for diagnosing and improving attention endurance.
This ability helps us stay focused amidst an overload of information and respond quickly.

The tool is named after its creator, German psychotherapist Walter Schulte, who used different versions of this table to study attention characteristics in his patients.

Research shows that regular practice with such tables can:

increase reading speed,

expand working memory capacity,

enhance peripheral vision,

and improve the ability to find relevant information among excess data.

Task: find all the numbers from 1 to 30 in order, as quickly as possible.

✉️ Letter from a 96-year-old woman to her bank

(A true letter that went viral – and no wonder!)

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to thank you for refusing the check I wrote to pay my plumber last month.
By my calculations, only three nanoseconds passed between the moment his check was deposited and the automatic transfer of funds from my savings account — an account I’ve had for over 30 years.

Congratulations on taking advantage of that microscopic time gap and charging me $30 for a “bank inconvenience fee.”

I am actually grateful, because this incident made me reconsider my mistakes — chiefly one: that I still trust people who no longer exist.

Because when you call or write to me, I always respond.
But when I try to reach you, I encounter machines, automated voices, and absurd fees.

Therefore, from now on, I will deal only with human beings.
No more machines. No more systems.

My mortgage and other payments will no longer be automatic.
I will send you a check by mail — addressed to a specific person of your choosing.

According to postal law, opening someone else’s correspondence is illegal.
So, I’m enclosing an eight-page form that your employee must complete, so I can know as much about them as you know about me.

Please also include:

their medical records (notarized),

details of income, debts, and assets — with supporting documentation.

In due course, that employee will receive my personal PIN — 28 digits long.
That’s exactly how many buttons I have to press on your automated phone line just to find out how much money I have.

As they say: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

So, if you try to contact me, you will hear my automated answering system:

Press 1: to make an appointment.
Press 2: to report a missing payment.
Press 3: to be transferred to my living room.
Press 4: to my bedroom.
Press 5: to the bathroom.
Press 6: to reach my mobile phone.
Press 7: to leave a message on my computer (password to follow).
Press 8: to return to the main menu.

For complaints — you will be placed on hold with pleasant elevator music.

And finally — following your example — I will charge you $50 for implementing this new system.

Thank you for crediting my account.

Sincerely,
Your client.

🪙 Reflection

This letter isn’t just a joke.
It’s a cry of common sense in a world where the system pretends to think — but in reality has become a tool of exploitation and control.

..I was wrong.

I’d been thinking that as AI proliferates and the rate of content generation explodes, there would be a premium on authenticity. On not pretending to be perfect, but embracing our humanity: the hesitations, the blemishes, the humility. Perhaps, I thought, people would grow tired of the smooth delivery of AI avatars in impeccably edited videos.

But that’s not enough. What is being lost in the deluge of information, the algorithmically curated, scrollable feeds is much more significant.

Children no longer build treehouses from scrap wood, craft soapbox cars, or weave friendship bracelets. They now assemble TikTok video collages of Roblox and Minecraft avatars, wearing skins with both the swastika and the hammer and sickle, blissfully—but dangerously—unaware of the meaning of these symbols, the context of these memes...

We all are adrift in a flood of misappropriated symbols: t-shirts with “Fuck Jesus” loudly scrawled over Che Guevara’s face, and AI Buddhas making ‘finger hearts’ under the eye of Horus. Even at this extreme—unthinkably profane only a few short years ago—we simply walk on by, and the symbols and language lose their meaning.

And as symbols lose their meaning, we lose our ability to communicate. We lose the ability to connect with each other, deepening the abyss of loneliness created by performative social media. We lose our ability to teach, ensuring that what has historically been a “generational gap” is now a lasting, symbolic illiteracy. The next generation may be able to read or write, but have no idea why it matters, and so see no need to do so.

In a participatory, dreamlike reality, such symbolic illiteracy is the ultimate ontological disarmament. Meaning is the interface between consciousness and creation. When it collapses, we lose authorship. Stripped of our ability to create and express, we walk through reality as little more than meme machines, parroting the trending phrases and repeating tired rituals (”like and subscribe!”), some sort of strange cargo cult, an echo of a once inspired people, growing faint.

The way forward seems simple: slow down. Take the time to reconnect with family and old friends. It is through our relationships that we remember what the symbols meant. And as we do, the crises lose their power — not because they are solved, but because they are symptoms of forgetting.

Reconnect. Reminisce. Dream—lucidly.

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams…”
If this stirred something, I’d love to hear from you — share your reflections below. 🙏
