The 'humanity switch' and how the MFG react to it is insane
Here's just one example:
"Oh, Elena! You murdered a poor waitress in cold blood for no reason! Poor wittle baby! Let's console you and make you feel better after you did this awful thing!"
C'mon, now.
I want every one of you here to imagine that waitress was someone you loved with all your heart.
Now imagine someone explaining to you that it's OK because Elena's "humanity switch" was off.
Would you really just go, "Oh, well, that makes sense. I forgive her".
Madness
Dorian is the only person in the show who reacted to what a vampire did when their humanity switch was off that actually made sense

Kai Siphoning Stefan
When Kai tried to siphon Stefan, (after he had the cure) he couldn’t siphon him. I know he’s human, but the cure itself, running in his veins, is magic itself, right? So while Kai wouldn’t be siphoning vampirism, there was still technically magic in Stefan’s blood to be siphoned. He should have been siphoned.
It’s a clear plot hole honestly, but to fill it, I guess I’ll live under the head cannon that Kai just had to try a bit harder or longer for the siphons to work because the cures magic is more subtle or buried than vampirism or something 😂

steroline should’ve started in season 2
I think their story would’ve seemed more natural if at least the build up started in season 2; Stefan was very concerned with helping
her adapt to turning. He seems to have a bit of a savior complex (hence always insisting on radically protecting Elena) and Caroline needed somebody considerate and patient especially at the time. Wasted opportunity.

The double standards
I hate how people treat the no humanity switch as they don’t have to have consequences for their actions, but in the same breath will condemn Stefan for his ripper phase. People love to say that “oh when Damon did bad things just because his humanity was off” and “he should be forgiven because he wasn’t in control”. Having your humanity off, doesn’t mean that you’re not in control of your actions that just means that you don’t care about the consequences of your actions whereas when you have a person like Stefan, who actually has a actual problem and that being the ripper gene, he can’t control himself Like he literally cannot control the bloodlust and again it’s not excusing his actions, but there’s a reason for that, not just because he felt like killing somebody because they cough too hard.
The infantilization of Damon a grown 25-year-old man and his temper tantrums in this fandom are hilarious because his fans will use everything under the sun to justify why he is the way he is bring up all the trauma that he went through but again, when a different character who has gone through the same, if not more trauma decides to act out, oh they’re condemned the hell 😑

Did the show intentionally strip away the horror of vampirism or was that a mistake
