Anyone else feel like the first 2 Seasons feel like a separate show?
Anyone else share this santiment? Big rant incoming, and I don't know if it's because a different sub-set of people behind the scenes participated in the directing, camera-work, storytelling., etc., during the first 2 Seasons VS everything else that came after, but in my mind I can't help but view the first 2 Seasons as their own separate show. They just feel so different (in a good way). Even down to simple things like the darker lighting, which made it a hell to edit gifs back in the days LOL, but undoubtedly I think contributed so much to the vibes of the show. For some reason S1 and S2 feel a lot more mature than S3-forth, despite first two seasons obviously being meant to serve teen angst.
But even outside of that, I feel like S1 and S2 felt a lot more raw and multi-layered. I think the angst was portrayed better, more authentically. Familial drama and generational trauma were depicted in ways that made it relatable but not forced and you had it being adressed as a topic from multiple storylines/facets at the same time. I think the show did a great job in crafting seemless parallels during S1 and S2 and assigning a dose of mystery to every character, not fully exposing their motives or true feelings, which is what I think made the first two seasons much better. After that I feel like characters started getting (forcebly) boxed into specific categories, which killed the spark.
Also, this is likely an unpopular opinion, but the The Originals being introduced to TVD lowkey started the downfall of the TVD-universe itself (in my eyes). At that time I didn't view it that way, because I did enjoy characters like Klaus and Rebekah, but upon rewatching it, I realized that I would have preffered it if they were just passing villains, rather than such a pivotal part to the plot of upcoming seasons. It even felt a bit like TVD was used as a stepping stone for The Originals show/spin-ff in itself, which kind of put me off.
The Originals' presence in TVD started feeling a bit convoluted to me at some point. I preferred it when their familial storyline and intentions were mostly hidden and surrounded by mystery, I found it unecessary for us to know who their mother or father is or need the introduction of every family member. Klaus' agenda to create hybrids was also hard to buy into for me, he could just influence vampires and have his own army either way, hybrids or not. I also couldn't buy into his past frienship with Stefan, and the whole ordeal of him ordering him to leave town with him and become a sort of loyal servant to him, then just using that to watch him murder random people at command, like Klaus couldn't just get anyone else to do it it either way. The whole plot-line of Stefan leaving town to go and be part of Klaus' personal army felt a bit like a fabricated excuse to make Stefan leave so there can be more space for Delena's development, and I say that as someone who doesn't even like Stelena. Ripper!Stefan was also a lot more multi-layered in S1 when he had his outbursts than during S3. And I also find it hard to believe Klaus was so enormed with his brief friendly encounter with Stefan in the past, that all he wanted from him in exchange of saving Damon's life, was for Stefan to just join him on his quest. It just felt kind of anti-climatic.
There is also the fact that Klaus and The Originals spending too much time in Mystic Falls, practically barred Katherine's full potential from being part of the plot for one too many episodes, when at the time her character still had unfinished business and she is one of the most lore-heavy characters and villains that could still spice up the plot in many ways.
I really think the writers and directors should have gone down a totally different storyline ending S2-starting S3.
Katherine still being Klaus' captive and maybe secretly sabotaging his plans in S3 and ultimately escaping would have been more interesting to me, than Stefan turning into Klaus' newfound servant overnight. I think the

Katherine still being Klaus' captive and maybe secretly sabotaging his plans in S3 and ultimately escaping would have been more interesting to me, than Stefan turning into Klaus' newfound servant overnight. I think the
doppelgangers' mythology being explored deeper would have been more interesting as well. Another plot narrative could have been Klaus discovering Elena's been alive this whole time, and instead of wanting to drain her blood at once, simply using her as a walking blood bank for his hybrids and keeping her hidden away from Stefan and Damon, while Stefan and Damon are forced to rely on Katherine's help to find Elena (given she knows so much about the Originals and spent decades running from Klaus) would have also been an interesting storyline.
I think ultimately, what made TVD truly interesting is exactly the Elena/Stefan/Katherine/Damon foursome, and I think the show should have kept on exploring that dynamic and the mythological and historical parallels further, instead of shying away from it and making it just about Stefan/Elena/Damon and then making the show revolve around The Originals more than necessary.
But then again, I generally hold unconventional opinions about the show and have always been fascinated by the less popular relationships in it. For one thing, I never bought the attempts of the writers to write off Damon's love for Katherine as a thing of the past post-S2.
I enjoyed Delena as a back-and-forth dynamic, where she challenges his views and serves as a counter-point to Katherine, but I never actually wanted to see Delena be a real thing, because I think they do not work long-term and I think they were meant to teach each other lessons and give each other character development as frenemies who harbor secret attraction, rather than end up as an actual relationship. Frist two seasons were so good exactly because of this, and the moment the push for Delena became too obvious and forced, the spark in their dynamic died off for me as a viewer.
Ultimately, I think Katherine and Damon should have had further development. Katherine is a liar so her saying she loves Stefan and doesn't love Damon means nothing to the plot per se, it's not different to Elena saying she loves Stefan but still being drawn to Damon, but denying it for the longest time. Her character believes love is a weakness, so I think it makes sense she'd run from someone such as Damon who loves too consumingly. I think it was a mistake on the part of the writers to write off Damon's feelings for Katherine as ''over'', and not give Katherine space for development or a change of heart. It was a bit too obvious they did not want to give Katherien the same grace they gave Elena, and they wanted Katherine to just be a plot tool to push Damon and Elena together. It would have been more interesting if Katherine started showing remorse or feelings for him, further deeping and complicating the dynamic between Elena/Stefan/Katherine/Damon, which, as I said, is what made the show so great in the first place.
I don't know if anyone has watched True Blood, but IMO the show had one of the greatest romantic plot-twists in my opinion, since (SPOILER) >!originally everyone thought Eric would end up with Sookie (think Damon and Elena), but ultimately he ended up with Pam, another vampire he turned himself, who actually disliked Sookie.!<
I think the show would have gained a lot from simply not always giving the majority of the fandom what they want. Yes, Delena fans were a big part of the fandom, but I think prioritizing giving them the DE endgame they wanted, ultimately kind of ruined a lot of the complexity in the show and the relationship dynamics that could have further emerged, and I would even argue it ruined a lot of the complexity surrounding DE itself as a relationship.

Morality in TVD
Often when discussing some of the misdeeds of the characters people will say things like “omg it’s a vampire show, leave your morals at the door!” and that’s partly true, but ignores the fact that every supernatural show has it’s own established rules of morality.
For example, TVD invites the audience to criticise vampires who feed on humans and kill them. We have “good” vampires like Caroline who feed using blood bags only. In contrast, on a show like Interview With The Vampire, vampires killing humans is not something the audience is meant to sit with or dislike the characters for. Some of the characters presented as relatively innocent are straight up unabashed serial killers.
So when things like the Andie Star situation happens in TVD, we’re supposed to see it as wrong and to care that it’s happening. Stefan calls Damon out for it, saying he’s “victimising” her. Caroline describes what happened to her as abuse. Stefan is angry at Damon when he finds out about the bloodsharing with Elena etc.
There’s a reason why the humanity switch was written into the show. It was a way to absolve our main characters of their vampire behaviour. So, yes, when people call Damon a sexual predator or Stefan a serial killer, it’s perfectly in line with the established morality of the show.

Is tvd your comfort show?
I don't get into tv shows often, I just don't have the patience lol, so its rare for me to get into a show so much that I rewatch often
Tvd is one of those comfort shows along with game of thrones
I can just turn tvd on anytime and just sit back and watch
I mostly tend to stick with seasons 1-4 though as the writing gets pretty bad from s5 on

The actual self centered one
Not for Damon fans, don’t waste time, no shade just sending hugs!!!🫂
Saw yet another post about Elena being self centered while scrolling on Tumblr, but can we all just pause and focus on Damon please??
1x8 (Lexi’s death)/4x17
Elena: So you're saying that you felt bad for Lexi?
Damon: She became a walking, talking reminder of all the awful things I'd done. And I managed to avoid her for decades, and then she just shows up in Mystic Falls to wish my baby bro a happy birthday, and boom-- rush of memories, rush of guilt.
Elena: So you kill her?
Damon: Out of sight, out of mind.
Can we be serious pls. Kills his brothers lifelong friend bc he felt guilt like ugh bro just shut up.
2x8
Damon: I just have to say something.
Elena: Why do you have to say it with my necklace?
Damon: Well, because what I'm about to say is...probably the most selfish thing I have ever said in my life.
Elena: Damon, don't go there.
Damon: No, I just have to say it once. You just need to hear it. I love you, Elena and it's because I love you that...I can't be selfish with you. Why you can't know this. I don't deserve you but my brother does.
Violates her mind so HE can get his feelings off his chest. Has he ever considers shutting the hell up? And let’s not forget how he spends the following seasons pursuing her. So much for letting her go.
2x21
Elena: It will work.
Damon: You think it will work. You want it to work. Why am I the only one who's convinced it won't? There has to be another way.
Elena: There isn't.
Damon: And you're going to die, Elena.
Elena: And then I'll come back to life.
Damon: That is not a risk I'm willing to take.
Elena: But I am.
Elena: It's my life, Damon. My choice.
Damon: I can't lose you.
Elena: You won't.
She goes toward the door but Damon intercepts her.
Damon: There is another way.
Elena: What are you...
He bites his wrist so it starts bleeding.
Elena: Damon, no!
Yay, tries turning her into the one thing he knows damn well she doesn’t want because HE’S afraid of losing her. Genuinely what is his problem.
And let’s not forget 7x15 where Stefan lets himself get stabbed so Damon doesn’t get hunted by Rayna.
STEFAN: What is this?
DAMON: sighs We both know the last few months have been impossible for me. I've been walking a tightrope. Falling off constantly. I'm not a good brother when I'm not with Elena, and when I'm not a good brother, people get hurt.
Stefan looks at Damon, both horrified and furious at Damon for what he knows is coming
STEFAN: So, you're just gonna run away?
DAMON: Nope. I'm gonna stay in one place. Desiccated, right next to her.
STEFAN: angrily Yeah. I saved your life-- time and time again. I chose you. I sacrificed everyone and everything for you. You're just gonna turn your back on me now?
DAMON: sadly We're vampires, Stefan. It's temporary. I'll see you again.
Damon turns to leave again, and Stefan loses his temper
STEFAN: Listen to me. If there's even a fraction of you that cares about me-- your brother, your family-- you will not walk out that door.
Damon looks pained to have to do this, but doesn't turn back
DAMON: Save a good bottle of that bourbon for me, brother. We're gonna need it to sort all this out in about sixty years.
He’s an actual waste of space here, I’m so tired.
4x7 (episode after Stelena has broken up)
Stefan: Ah, so you're gonna confront Shane, threaten him, possibly kill him, that sort of thing.
Damon: Yeah, unless he tells me what he's up to. He pats Stefan on the shoulder. What do you say? Should we tag team this?
Stefan: Nah, l'd say you're on your own.
Stefan starts to leave again, but Damon stops him.
Damon: Or we could just blow it off and go get drunk.
Brother bond over some Tri Delts. If you, you know, want some quality time.
The fake concern is genuinely taking me out. l've never seen anything more pathetic, damn. He spends what? Like over a year chasing his brothers girl and suddenly he cares about Stefan's feelings?? Omg I would've killed his dumbass on the spot. Stef

gagged him though after that so I think that's enough (it's not enough😔).
