Did any of you watch this show live as it was coming out
What was the hype around it, and did it eventually fall off by the end seasons?

I kind of loved Vicki and Damon together, and wish they would've done more with it
I KNOW, I know, but hear me out, okay?
I'm not saying they should've been endgame or anything, far from it, I've just been rewatching the series from the beginning and found the whole... thing they had going on honestly really interesting and kinda wish it would've lasted more than one episode?
Like, we had Damon using Caroline as an ongoing but unwilling source of blood for a bit, but then Stefan slipped her some vervain after her friends noticed the bite marks, so Damon couldn't use Caroline as his source anymore. Then Damon goes and kills all of Vicki's friends, but Vicki - who, up until that point, seemed to be genuinely apathetic about the whole concept of even keeping herself alive, is surprisingly fighting really hard to survive, so much so that Damon takes her home with him, even giving her some of his blood to make sure she lives. She likes the way Damon's blood makes her feel, and offers up her own in exchange for more of his - essentially becoming the same thing Caroline was to him, but willingly? Idk, that's just such a neat concept to me! And I feel like it would've actually done something neat with Vicki's propensity for addiction rather than just making her an honestly pretty mean-spirited and shallow caricature of an addict, who just kind of runs around stumbling into bad situations nonstop until she dies. Her addictive personality actually makes her the perfect ongoing source of blood for Damon, since he doesn't even have to compel her, she's fully willing to give him her blood in exchange for his, and it opens up a lot of possibility for what might happen once she gets addicted to his blood and keeps wanting more and more.
Just imagine Vicki spending a few episodes fully aware that Damon is a vampire, willingly let him feed off her in exchange for him giving her some of his blood in return. His blood heals up her bite marks immediately, so he wouldn't have to worry about people noticing the marks the way they did with Caroline. What would being on a constant supply of vampire blood do to Vicki? I don't think we ever really see any humans consistently and deliberately consuming vampire blood for the rest of the show, so as far as I remember, we never really find out. Maybe she drinks so much of his blood that her own blood is no longer viable as a food source for Damon, and he kills her out of frustration and hunger. Or maybe she gets so addicted to vampire blood that she ends up needing a nonstop supply of it to satiate her, and attacks Damon (or Stefan) when he refuses to give her any more, and that's why Damon kills her. Of course, 'killing' her basically just means turning her, what with all the vampire blood in her system, which leads to the same problems they eventually have in the show.
She can still end up dying in the same way she canonically does, going after Jeremy and Elena and getting staked in front of them, so the rest of the show can continue on the same as it did. I just wish we had more time in that specific scenario, where she and Damon are reciprocably giving each other blood. I thought that was such a neat concept and I was sad it wasn't given more time!
