Man charged with attempting to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh pleads not guilty

During his arraignment, Roske sat bowing his head, wearing an oversized prison uniform and rubbing his neck, giving quick and clear answers to each question posed. Roske will remain behind bars and is not currently requesting a review of his detention.
Roske, 26, had flown from California to the Washington, area with a pistol, ammo clips and burglary tools, intent on killing Kavanaugh, according to an FBI affidavit, telling law enforcement he was upset over the leaked draft Supreme Court opinion on abortion rights, along with an upcoming gun control case and the school shooting last month in Uvalde, Texas.

Supreme Court strikes down New York's concealed carry law

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Supreme Court has issued its opinion in the case challenging New York's concealed carry law.
Under the century-old law, residents seeking a license to carry a gun outside the home need to demonstrate a "proper cause," which state courts have said is a "special need for self-protection."
Challengers argued the Second Amendment protects the right to carry firearms outside the home for self-defense, while supporters warned invalidating the restrictions could lead to more guns on the streets.

Gas prices: Why are they so high, and will a gas tax holiday help?

President Joe Biden and lawmakers are feeling political pressure over soaring gas prices as inflation hits levels not seen since 1981.
Yet policymakers have few levers to pull to control gas prices, especially in the short term, because international market forces account for most of the prices you see at the pump.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas was $4.73 in the Twin Cities on Thursday, down a few cents from the peak earlier this month, yet far above the $2.87 average from one year ago, according to AAA data. At the current price, a driver with a 14-gallon tank is paying $66 to fill up.
Why am I paying so much?
The main driver of gas prices is the cost of crude oil, which has surged this year because of geopolitical and economic factors, including an increase in travel and the war in Ukraine.

Crude oil prices account for 59% of the cost of gas, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
