With great honor we remember the first martyrs of YPJ. Bêrîvan, a mother of two children, felt martyr on May 28th 2013 when islamist groups attacked Afrin. Silava was martyred one day later in Sherawa district. They inspired thousands of women to continue their path until today.

YPJ spokesperson Ruksen Mohamed talked about the refusal of the new regime to hand over captures YPJ fighters:

"The refusal to hand over the YPJ fighters shows that the government cannot prioritize the issue of women, even though it is a fundamental human and social issue. The women who were arrested are the ones who defended the Syrian soil against terrorism and played an important role in protecting Syria, the Middle East and even humanity as a whole. Women are not just a number or a marginalized group, they are the elements that led the revolution and are helping to guide Syrian society towards democracy and pluralism."

It is not just a philosophy of life, it is revolutionary thought

We spoke with the Danielle Mitterrand Foundation after their delegation's visit to YPJ about how YPJ is falsely portrayed in European media and what they took from the discussion on their visit to us.

A warrior fights with his weapon, and an artist fights with his instrument and voice

The music group Stêra Zêrîn (Golden Star) which is part of the autonomous cultural movement Hîlal Zêrîn (Golden Crescent) visited YPJ. We were talking about the meaning of culture in the revolution and YPJ commander Newroz Ehmed stated that there has always been a rich culture in Mesopotamia but now with the revolution culture has taken a new step. This is also connected to thoughts and thinking. Only if your thoughts and your thinking is free you can create something meaningful.

It also became very clear that self-defense has many different forms and to protect the values of the revolution self-defense with weapons is just as important as the self-defense of ones one culture and traditions. But by doing this to not be limited to Kurdish culture, as different cultures enrich each other.

After the fruitful discussions we were lucky and Stêra Zêrîn shared some songs with us.

Anniversary of martyr Zilan's self-sacrifice action.

29 years ago, on 30 June 1996, with the self-sacrifice action of martyr Zilan a new chapter of women's struggle was written. This line of struggle continues to this days and has reached new heights in the struggles in Mimbic and Tishreen dam.
On this occasion today we remember martyr Zilan, the self-sacrifice of women fighters in Mimbic and all the women who gave their lives for the cause of freedom and justice.

Looking the enemy in the eye without blinking.
Facing the enemy without bowing down.
Giving courage and strength.
For the existence of one's own people.
For humanity.

Values that apply to every fighter for justice. Be it in the prisons of Amed on 14th July 1982 or today in Rojava.

We also recommend the movie "14 tirmeh" about the prison resistance in 1982, which is available with subtitles in different languages:

Statement of the Syrian Democratic Forces on the ongoing attacks on al-Sweida Governorate

Statement on the Ongoing Attacks on Villages and Towns of al-Sweida Governorate

We condemn the ongoing attacks and aggressions targeting the villages and towns of al-Sweida, which have led to the tragic loss of many lives and the burning and looting of numerous civilian homes and farms.
The repeated attacks on our people in al-Sweida, along with the continued harassment they face in their daily lives and freedom of movement, are deeply concerning. These acts represent a serious setback to the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people.
We call for an immediate end to these attacks, guarantees to prevent their recurrence, and providing opportunity for national initiatives to address all issues in a way that reflects the will and interests of all components of the Syrian people.

During the current attacks against the Druze people, Fewziye Fexredîn El Şaranî defended her community in El Dor. After killing 7 attackers she also fell. We remember her and all fighting women and mothers with great honour, knowing that women's spirit of resistance is unbreakable.

Statement of YPJ General Command on the ongoing attacks carried out by the gangs of the Syrian Interim Government against the Druze people.

📌The rich culture of the Druze people is an inseparable part of Syria’s diverse mosaic heritage.
📌We consider these attacks a serious threat to the construction of a democratic Syria
📌We strongly condemn the illegal assaults that defy human ethics, as they target civilians, including women and children.
📌We, as the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
📌For the sake of regional peace and security, we call on all Syrian forces to resolve their issues through dialogue.
📌We remember the immortal martyr Fouziya Fakhr Al-Din Al-Sharanitook who fought till the last bullet defending her village
📌Without legitimate self-defense, there can be no talk of a free, safe, and dignified life.

To Our People and the General Public

📌As women fighters, we are fully prepared to stand against any aggression targeting the will of the people, the right to life, and the belief in freedom.

📌If called upon, we are ready to confront all dark forces that target women. In order to protect Druze women and civilians, we will shoulder all responsibilities placed upon us without hesitation. As the Women’s Protection Units, standing against attacks on women and oppressed peoples wherever they may be is not only our duty — it is the foundation of our existence.

📌Those responsible for the massacres committed against Druze women must be held accountable, the perpetrators must be prosecuted, and justice must be served.

📌We stand with the Druze people. Women will never be silent, and they will never bow their heads.

The gangs of the Syrian Interim Government have withdrawn from Suweyda.

This withdraw is a victory of the Druze people. This example shows that, as it is so often the case, when the people organise and resist, they cannot be defeated. The will of the people cannot be broken by weapons. Above all, the unity of women, especially against the mentality of killing that has emerged in recent days, is proving to be the strongest means of resistance.
We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and wish a speedy recovery for the wounded. Hand in hand we will work to build a decentralised, democratic, pluralistic Syria.

Statement of the YPJ General Command

📌 In the 21st century, Kurdish women shaped their struggle around the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Women, Life, Freedom). The July 19th Revolution, led by women, was the crowning moment of this struggle.

📌 The July 19th Revolution holds great significance not only in Kurdish history, but also in the history of Arab, Armenian, Syriac, Alawite, and Druze communities. Syria can preserve its historical mosaic through the richness and diversity of its peoples.
