The session ‘Adaptive architecture, art and cultural memory’ organised by Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation was held as part of Art Basel 2025. The discussion centred on how architecture and art can contribute to the understanding and preservation of cultural memory.
Special attention was paid to the forthcoming opening of the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Tashkent, which is housed in a historic industrial building from the early 20th century. This unique project, implemented by the Foundation together with the architectural bureau Studio KO, will become a new point of attraction on the cultural map of the region.
The session was attended by Gayane Umerova, Chairperson of Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, Dr Sara Raza, Artistic Director and Chief Curator of the CCA, as well as artists Muhannad Shono and Shokhrukh Rakhimov.

There are only a few days left until the deadline for applications for the UNESCO-Uzbekistan Beruniy Prize, the first international award for contributions to the ethics of artificial intelligence! Applications will be accepted until 30 June 2025.
Three winners will receive $30,000 each, a medal and a certificate. The award ceremony will take place in Samarkand during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.

В 1924 году вместе с женой, художницей Еленой Коровай переезжает в Ташкент, где вместе с Александром Волковым основывает знаменитый кружок «Мастера нового Востока». Известная работа Курзина «В гости» показывает архаичный городской восточный сюжет начала века — широкоплечий извозчик везёт женщин в парандже с маленькой девочкой по раскалённой улице к родственникам. Новый мир ещё не победил старый — паранджа ещё является важным атрибутом в облике центральноазиатской женщины.
Выставка продлится до декабря 2025 года.

Kurzin's famous work ‘Visiting’ depicts an archaic urban Eastern scene from the beginning of the century — a broad-shouldered cab driver carries veiled women and a little girl along a scorching street to visit relatives. The new world has not yet defeated the old — the paranja is still an important attribute in the appearance of Central Asian women.
