Is Attack on Titan one of the biggest examples of a show that proved all the haters wrong?

When Attack on Titan started and finished season 1, it had an incredibly popular debut, it was one of the most popular animes of its time and had massive worldwide cultural impact. However the anime lost a bit of popularity after season 1 and season 2 had a big time gap, so many doubters started to come. Many claimed that Attack on Titan was "overrated" and had a very basic plot and characters.

However, season 3 part 2 ignited the anime back to is glory days, in fact it became even more popular and acclaimed than ever, with many already starting to put it as one of the best and most popular animes of all time. And not only that: but S3P2 lead to an even bigger hype for Season 4: this season broke many streaming records and was in many charts of most on demand Tv Shows (not only anime), and it also was the first anime to win the Astra Awards for Best Animated Show.

Did Attack on Titan proved all the hates wrong? Or did the hatesr actually win with the apparently controversial ending?
