A green oasis in Whitefield, Lakeview Farm (an erstwhile farmhouse from where you could see Varthur Lake decades ago, if you were wondering about the name), the space currently houses 10 stores, selling everything from organic groceries and handicrafts to quirky home decor. Walk around and you'll also discover offices and a design studio (Studio ABD by design entrepreneur, Abhijit Bansod). Surrounded by flowering plants or creepers and fruit trees, with a huge open, grassy space in the middle that can be hired out for events.

Starting with Patio‘s outdoor furniture and accessories (think tables, bamboo structures and bio wall), the row of stores include Nisarga Shoppe with organic supplies (fresh vegetables, fruits and household goods), and Chumthang Crafts which has products from North East (decor and clothes to bedspreads and blankets). At the far end of the row is where you’ll find Studio Ebony, inviting you in with its dim lighting and collection of lamps and furniture.

Around noon is when 8th Cross Malleshwaram starts its bazaar scene. And it’s one of the best places for street shopping for anyone who wants to explore something other than Commercial Street. The entire footpath on both sides of the street are lined with vendors who sell everything from dreamcatchers to blingy jhumkas. In fact, if you just walk along, you will also find vendors selling fresh fruits, flowers, and crockery as well. There are even makeshift stalls that sell export rejects, so score yourself some loose t-shirts and baggy jammies, whose quality you maybe should not question! You will also find stalls selling blouses, sarees, and matching material as well.

Sattvam, Sadashiva Nagar, Bangalore

This Sattvic restaurant experiments with fruits, savouries and greens in flavoursome curries and will make you love vegetarian cuisine. Avoid the usual Paneer Tikkas and Bharwan Aloos from the starter menu here and instead focus on Nimboo Patte ki Gilafi, Fried Khandavi Kurkure or the Palak Patte ki Chaat (from the Make Your Own Chaat live counter). The Kurmuri Jalebi Chaat is our personal favourite here.

For mains, they have a menu that keeps changing but if you're lucky, don’t forget to try the Chote Samose ki Subzi (cocktail samosas dunked into spicy gravy), or the Kamal Kakdi Subzi (crunchy lotus stems cooked in a gravy). The Amrood Teen Mirch (guava curry) make for a different try with sweet and spicy flavours intermingling. The Gujarati Undhiyo - a mixed seasonal vegetable dish usually eaten in winters in Gujarat - is to be eaten with Mungodi (moong dal fritters) or their Methi Pulao, a Rajasthani staple. The place is done up well with cozy interiors, namely designed cushioned seats and walls with latticework to add to the overall charm

Forget Sapna Book House and Landmark and head to Maruti Book Store if you live in Hebbal for all stationery needs. They have school and office supplies like printer ink, colour pencils, paints and other provisions like chart paper and glitter (in case your little one tells you about his school project for the next day at dinner).

The folks here also sell textbooks and novels. We saw ICSE and CBSE textbooks from grades five to ten. Upon looking closely, we noticed Chetan Bhagat, Amish Tripathi and had a throwback when we saw Roald Dahl! Preparing for entrance exams like GMAT and TOEFL? They’ve got you covered in this section as well. First-hand, second-hand, they have it all and at budget-friendly prices.

Akkad Bakkad, HSR, Bangalore

Akkad Bakkad's newest flagship store (and second in the city) in HSR Layout is one of those stores that will make you want to buy everything. No really, we wanted one of everything from the store. The lifestyle store has a boho-meets-chic home decor collection, furniture, lifestyle accessories, and kid's decor and furnishings. We would be lying if we said that the first thing that caught our eye wasn't the kid's decor section. It consists of some of the cutest bedspreads, teepees, furnishings, and furniture that we've come across. So cute that we want the bunk bed with the slide in our home. A bunk bed with a slide, guys. Like how can you say no to that? Or the furnishings that feature animal and floral motifs.
