Johnson Market: Get Spoilt For Choice

Another place for succulent kebabs and juicy seekh rolls, Johnson Market takes you to infinity and beyond through its variety of dishes. Although it serves street food throughout the year, during the time of Ramadan it redefines being spoilt for choice. Okay, to put things in perspective: You’ll be picking between kheema samosas, harira, haleem, seekh kebabs, chauba puri, beef kebab, qubani ka meetha and paya soup among others with hot tea beverages.

The wild card here is kichda, similar to haleem but somehow the meat isn’t pasty. Beef kababs from Khazana Food Paradise are highly recommended and don’t miss out on Madeena store’s array of sodas – all colours and flavours to choose from which will be a perfect addition to the snack treats.

Dhee Pottery, Malleshwaram

It's no secret that this writer loves all things ceramic and pottery, so when he chanced upon Dhee Pottery's collection at a pop-up many moons ago, he wasted no time sliding into the DMs with a 'Hi, Arunima, I'd like to order two pasta bowls with the pretty floral design please'. Arunima's Dhee Pottery is a pottery studio and ceramic store that not only lets you buy pretty ceramicware but also teaches you the art.

We went with the former because we're lazy that way and also her range of tableware collections inspired by florals and nature was just too hard to not resist. All the floral designs that you see on her plates, bowls, mugs, and home decor pieces, such as vases are handpainted by Arunima. You’ll find florals of all kinds and designs that range from Mughal to geometric. Be sure to check out her Instagram page, where she showcases a lot of behind-the-scenes of how designs came along.

Izzy Home Essentials
Shivaji Nagar, Bangalore

While trudging down Commercial Street like we often do, we came across this seemingly normal looking kitchenware and furniture store called Izzy Home Essentials. We walked in, only to find a bunch of treasures hidden in plain sight. From wooden yoga chairs that’ll have your posture in check to marble mortar and pestles and wooden casseroles, this place packs in quite a lot.

Think of them as an export surplus store for furniture and kitchenware -- which means you can score some awesome finds here from imported brands too. We nosed around a bit more and found a few furniture pieces that reminded us of the Ikea aesthetic. These include a bunch of minimalistic chairs and armchairs, which can be easily converted into something of a statement piece with interesting upholstery. Their other furniture is also pretty classy and made in India, like the hardy wooden chairs and the nifty upholstered stools. The prices for their furniture start at around INR 3,000.
