“The Shop of Eighteen Sins”
In the heart of the city, there was a small shop called “The Shop of the Mind”.
People from all walks of life would visit it every day. The owner of the shop was Pankaj.
He had put up a signboard that read:
“Here, we sell things to lighten your soul.”

One day, a young man named Chaitanya walked into the shop.
He looked troubled and said,
“My life is full of sorrow. My heart feels heavy. Please suggest something to ease my burden.”

Pankaj smiled and said,
“There are eighteen burdens in your mind. Remove them, and your life will become lighter.”

Chaitanya was surprised. “What burdens?”

Pankaj explained:
“Do you ever hurt others?”
“Sometimes, in anger...”
That is violence (Pranatipat).
“Do you ever lie?”
“Yes, sometimes to get my work done.”
That is falsehood (Mrishavad).
“Have you ever taken something without permission?”
“Yes, in childhood...”
That is theft (Adattadan).
“Have you indulged in bad habits?”
“Occasionally.”
That is sensual indulgence (Maithun).
“Have you craved possessions?”
“Many times.”
That is greed (Parigrah).

Pankaj continued explaining all the 18 sins one by one:
Anger, Ego, Deceit, Greed, Attachment, Hatred, Quarrel, False Accusation, Backbiting, Slander, Sensual Craving, Lying with Deception, and False Beliefs.
Chaitanya realized that all these burdens were present in his life.

Pankaj said,
“Each day, recognize one of these burdens and try to let it go.
You’ll feel your heart becoming lighter.”

Chaitanya followed Pankaj’s advice.
He started letting go of one sin each day.
A few weeks later, he returned to the shop — with peace on his face.

Pankaj smiled:
“Now your soul is light. That is the essence of Jainism –
Let go of the eighteen sins and purify your life.”


And so, Pankaj’s ‘Shop of the Mind’ continued to teach everyone —
Renouncing sin is the real way to lighten life.

Your major purpose is your most important goal right now.

2. Develop intense desire and belief ;
Develop burning desire to achieve your goals. Believe beyond doubt that you can accomplish any goal you set for yourself.

Visualize your ideal future in great detail. The more frequently, vividly, intensely and for longer durations you visualize, the quicker you will attract it.

8. Take care of your health:
Being physically fit and healthy boosts your self-love, self-respect and energy levels.

9. Failure is a prerequisite for success:
Failure is simply a way to learn the lessons you need to succeed. The only thing the fear of failure assures you of is ultimate failure.

10. Believe nothing can stop you
Believe you can overcome any hardship. This belief awakens an inner power to help you achieve great things.

Victim or survivor mindset🧠

“I think that there are two ways of looking at things that have happened to you. You can be a victim or you can be a survivor. Those are two very different cognitive positions. You can’t control what happens to you in either circumstance, but one is very powerful. You have overcome. One is you have had something happen to you and you are under that thing for quite some period of time. For me, if I hear someone and I hear that helplessness, one is that I want to reframe that experience. I want to tell a different story. I want them to tell a different narrative to themselves. I want them to rewrite that. In some ways, you want them to rewrite that narrative to survivorship and overcoming and what it took. You ask the right questions to get them to see that their own throughway in that case is based on their strength and ability. You want them to see those things rather than seeing the helplessness and powerlessness.”
