Prayers in Honor of the Seven Dolors of Our Lady

approved by Pope Pius VII

V. O God, come to my assistance;

R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

V. Glory be to the Father…

R. As it was in the beginning…

1. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in affliction of your tender heart at the prophecy of the holy and aged Simeon. O dearest Mother, by your heart so afflicted, implore for me the virtue of humility and the Gift of the holy Fear of God. Hail Mary…

2. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in the anguish of your most affectionate heart during the flight into Egypt and your sojourn there. O dearest Mother, by your anxious heart so troubled, obtain for me the virtue of generosity, especially toward the poor, and the Gift of Piety. Hail Mary…

3. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in those anxieties which tried your troubled heart at the loss of your beloved Child Jesus. O dearest Mother, by your exceedingly troubled heart implore for me the virtue of chastity and the Gift of Knowledge. Hail Mary…

4. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, on account of the horror with which your mother-heart was stricken when meeting Jesus bearing the Cross. O dearest Mother, by your exceedingly oppressed heart implore for me the virtue of patience and the Gift of Fortitude. Hail Mary…

5. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, on account of that martyrdom which tortured your generous heart at the death-agony of Jesus. O dearest Mother, through this thy martyred heart, implore for me the virtue of temperance and the Gift of Counsel. Hail Mary…

6. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in the wounding of your tender heart, by the thrust of the lance that opened the side of Jesus and pierced His most adorable Heart. O dearest Mother, by this vicarious transfixion of thy own heart, implore for me the virtue of brotherly love and the Gift of Understanding. Hail Mary…

7. I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, on account of that agony which racked your most loving heart at the burial of Jesus. O dearest Mother, through this extreme torment that filled thy burdened heart, obtain for me the virtue of zeal and the Gift of Wisdom. Hail Mary…

V. Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Let intercession be made for us, we beseech You, O Lord Jesus Christ, now and at the hour of our death, before the throne of Your mercy, by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Your Mother, whose most holy soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the hour of Your bitter Passion. Through You, O Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world, who with the Father and the Holy Ghost lives and reigns world without end. Amen.

SEPTEMBER 16: THE POPE OF REPENTANT APOSTATES
Saint Cornelius
Pope and Martyr
Died: 253
---
He was a martyred pope who reigned for 2 years. He is represented holding a cow horn because his name means β€œbattle horn.” As a pope, he condemned the heresy of Novatianism which taught that Christians who turned away from the faith should not be accepted back. Hence, he welcomed back those who had apostatized during the persecutions of Emperor Decius. He died while in exile for being a Christian.

SEPTEMBER 16: THE RELUCTANT POPE
Blessed Victor III
Pope
Died: 1087
---
He was a Benedictine pope for a year and 4 months. His original name was Dauferius. He entered a monastery where he chose the name Desiderius. He was so reluctant to become pope that it took a year before he was crowned. Most of the days of his reign struggled with the antipope Clement III. He wrote a book on the life and miracles of St. Benedict. He forbade lay investiture and organized a Crusade against the Saracens.
---
Pope Blessed Victor III, Great Abbot of the Monte Cassino, pray for us to defeat the schismatics & heretics and unite our Church as we continue the eternal Catholic struggle against the heathens and the Devil that you continued in your holy lifetime as the Vicar of Christ. Intercede for us to fulfill our divine callings even when we are reluctant to fulfill them. Amen.

The Little Mermaid is Irish, and Christian.

Recorded in the annuals of Ultster, in 589 her beautiful singing caught the attention of St. Comgall, who caught and baptized her, giving her the Christened name Muirgein ("sea-born")

She appears canonised as St. Muirgen in genealogies of Irish saints, her feast day assigned to 27 January.

Originally Li Ban the Princess, her family drowned and she was transformed into a mermaid, her little dog into an otter, after being trapped under the sea for a year.

She was offered either another 300 yrs of life, or a Christian soul, which, should she choose it, meant immediate death. She wisely chose the latter.

Pagan mermaids are Sirens, who lure men to their death with song....

SEPTEMBER 16: THE APOSTLE OF THE PICTS
Saint Ninian
Bishop
Died: 432
---
He was a British bishop. He is also known as St. Dinan or St. Ringan. He was the founder of Christian and monastic life in southern Scotland. He studied in Rome and returned to the British Isles to evangelize the Picts. He built a stone church, which was uncommon among Britons and which he called β€œCandida Casa” in a place that took the same name. It is said that he cured a neighboring chieftain of blindness.
---
Bishop Saint Ninian, great Roman missionary and Apostle of the Picts, where Rome could not civilize by sword you brought the Word and conquered gloriously for Christ. Pray that today we shall be able to conquer by word rather than by sword, and that we might be able to become apostles to the modern heathens who reject our Messiah. Amen.
