It's unlikely that an employer will reject a candidate because of some cliched phrasing in their CV. But for the sake of making a great first impression, avoiding clichés is a must 💯

Adjectives like “goal-oriented”, “outgoing,” and “stress-resistant” have turned into buzzwords that hiring managers pay little mind to. What phrases can you use instead? How can you turn these qualities to your advantage? Let's figure it out together ⚡️

✔️ List relevant qualities only
Minimize the amount of useless information in your CV by leaving out everything that is not relevant to the job. The goal is for the recruiter to read your CV and get a clear idea of why you are the right person to fill this position.

✔️ Keep it modest
The ideal list of personal qualities is five-to-seven-points-long at most. Check the job description. It is likely to have exactly what the employer is looking for.

✔️ Stop using buzzwords
Not everything has to be stated outright. Your proactive approach to life can be deduced from the bright smile in the picture that is attached to your CV. Your aptitude for learning is evident from all of the courses that you took.

✔️ Back up your words with evidence
Turn the vaguely described hero of your CV into a living breathing human by sharing their stories and experiences, for example:
Stress-resistant: closed the deal with a difficult client who drove three of my predecessors to tears.
Punctual: spent three years working at a company where being late for work was fined.

✔️Stick to the style and structure of a resume
Your skills and personal qualities should not be listed together. Skills are abilities you picked up while working or studying, while personal qualities are unique traits of your character. They belong in different sections of your resume.

You have set your goal, but how do you go about achieving it? This process is challenging and exciting, and not at all similar to a dull morning routine. If properly organized, the process itself will be just as enjoyable as the end result 👌

The Career Center is here to remind you how to work towards your goals and have fun doing it!

1️⃣Write your goals down
Putting things on paper is a way of thinking that helps to be honest with yourself. It will keep you from overestimating your capabilities. Writing things down helps juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.

2️⃣Break down big objectives into smaller tasks
Trying to do everything at the same time is not worth it. Divide a big task into smaller ones and allocate time accordingly. Make sure that every step brings you closer to the overall goal.

3️⃣Take action
As soon as your plan is written, immediately start working towards your goal. Keep in mind that even the smallest step leads to something far greater. If a particular task causes problems, you can always adjust the plan.

4️⃣Stick to the plan
When following the plan causes problems, do not give up. Stay focused on your goals and keep up the work. If the initial plan did not work out, adjust it so that you will reach the same goal, but using a different approach.

5️⃣Measure your progress regularly
Making your goal a reality takes time. In order to get things done, it is important to periodically review your progress. A number of scheduled reminders as well as opportunities for feedback will keep you motivated.

6️⃣Celebrate every win, even a small one
It is important to encourage yourself every step of the way. Do not delay your reward until full completion. Small victories are your main source of motivation to keep going.
