CW graphic description of violence
antispecieism is the idea that suffering and exploitation of an animal
cannot be justified by their belonging to a certain species.
it is the opposition to the bias
that considers harming and killing certain species acceptable.
it is the fight against the systemic oppression - the genocide
through imprisonment, deportation, rape, mutilation and killing
of entire populations of non-human animals.
it is the struggle against the violence inflicted to individuals
capable of feeling pain, grief, sadness and anger
in the name of a system rooted in suprematist and exceptionalist beliefs.
if we start from anarchist, transfeminist and postcolonial ideas,
if we are guided by a ethics and practices of empathy and freedom,
we cannot avoid the conclusion that the only liberation to aim for
is a total one - a total liberation
from the cages that jail humans and non-humans alike.
from the colonizers that steal indigenous land
to feed a forcefully overbred population of livestock
while the surrounding towns starve.
from the capitalists that exploit workers
and steal the product of their hands
just like they steal the products of non-human bodies.
from the patriarchs who violate women to assert their dominance
the same dominance mirrored on the immobilized cows
as the vets impregnate them with syringes
just to steal their milk, as they cry for weeks
looking for their missing newborn baby.
we'd starve if we didn't, they say.
they lie, while they raid and pillage four fifths
of the land and food and water
for less than a quarter of what we eat.
they lie, while they slaughter hundreds of billions each year
half a billion each day
three holocausts per hour
three hundred thousands since you started reading this message
each one of them struggling, screaming, squirming, crying,
trying to free themselves at all costs right before the end.
i've been told talking about this is guilt trip
i've been told this is not a priority
i've been told people's choices and beliefs are not my business
i've been told to drop the topic
i've been told i make people uncomfortable
to this i say, i don't care about guilt
i care about people doing
what they think is right
or is it too radical?
to this i say, what is our priority
if not bringing love and life
where there are suffering and death
or is it too radical?
to this i say, people's choices change lives
i just ask people to do what they can
with the means they have
or is it too radical?
to this i say, i speak for those
whose voice can't be heard because
their whole existence was already dropped
or is it too radical?
to this i say, comfort is a privilege
i just ask people to be aware
of the pain and injustice around them
or is it too radical?
