"The state organization, having always been, both in ancient and modern history (Macedonian Empire, Roman Empire, modern European states grown up on the ruins of the autonomous cities), the instrument for establishing monopolies in favour of the ruling minorities, cannot be made to work for the destruction of these monopolies.
The anarchists consider, therefore, that to hand over to the state all the main sources of economical life - the land, the mines, the railways, banking, insurance, and so on - as also the management of all the main branches of industry, in addition to all the functions already accumulated in its hands (education, state-supported religions, defence of the territory, etc.), would mean to create a new instrument of tyranny. State capitalism would only increase the powers of bureaucracy and capitalism.
True progress lies in the direction of decentralization, both territorial and functional, in the development of the spirit of local and personal initiative, and of free federation from the simple to the compound, in lieu of the present hierarchy from the centre to the periphery."
— Peter Kropotkin, Anarchism, 1910

“On Authority” Revisited
Fredrick Engels argues against Anarchism on the basis that authority is needed to carry out a revolution against capitalism and the organization of society. This article argues that he fundamentally ignored what Anarchists actually meant when they said they…

'The first requirement of Communism is the socialization of the land and of the machinery of production and distribution. Socialized land and machinery belong to the people, to be settled upon and used by individuals or groups according to their needs. In Russia land and machinery are not socialized but nationalized.
The term is a misnomer, of course. In fact, it is entirely devoid of content. In reality there is no such thing as national wealth. A nation is too abstract a term to “own” anything. Ownership may be by an individual, or by a group of individuals; in any case by some quantitatively defined reality. When a certain thing does not belong to an individual or group, it is either nationalized or socialized. If it is nationalized, it belongs to the state; that is, the government has control of it and may dispose of it according to its wishes and views. But when a thing is socialized, every individual has free access to it and use it without interference from anyone.
In Russia there is no socialization either of land or of production and distribution. Everything is nationalized; it belongs to the government, exactly as does the post-office in America or the railroad in Germany and other European countries. There is nothing of Communism about it.'

"For German Communists in the nineteen-thirties, few places were more dangerous than the Soviet-Union. Exact figures are lacking, but Paul Jäkel, responsible for the German section of the Comintern, estimated in 1938 that over 70 per cent of KPD members in the Soviet Union had been arrested. Of the 68 top officials in the KPD based in the Soviet-Union, 41 were murdered.
In 1991, the Institute for History of the Workers’ Movement, the successor to the GDR’s Institute for Marxism-Leninism published a compilation of 1,136 capsule biographies of activists from the German workers’ movement who fell victim to the Stalinist terror. Since then, researchers have identified 1,019 Germans, mostly party-members or sympathisers who were executed or perished in the camps.
As the prominent historian of German Communism Hermann Weber pointed out, of the 1933 leadership of the KPD, more were killed in Stalinism than in Nazi Germany."

Paul Schäfer (1894-1938) was an early member of the KPD in Erfurt. After participating in the resistance against the Kapp Putsch of 1920, he became involved in municipal politics for the KPD. When he was fired from his job in a shoe factory, he became a full…
The Four Pests campaign was one of the first campaigns of the Great Leap Forward in Maoist China from 1958 to 1962. Authorities targeted four "pests" for elimination: rats, flies, mosquitoes, and sparrows.
The extermination of sparrows – also known as the smash sparrows campaign or the eliminate sparrows campaign — resulted in severe ecological imbalance, and was one of the causes of the Great Chinese Famine which lasted from 1959 to 1961, with an estimated death toll due to starvation ranging in the tens of millions (15 to 55 million).
In 1960, the campaign against sparrows ended, and bed bugs became an official target.

'For years, some Pakistani leftists, especially those in the online intelligentsia and ‘progressive’ elite, have portrayed themselves as anti-imperialist. However, when it comes to Balochistan, their silence is deafening. Even worse than silence, many of them actually repeat the state’s propaganda: that Baloch dissent is “foreign-funded,” that enforced disappearances are exaggerated, and that China’s exploitation of Baloch land and resources isn’t imperialism—because it’s not done by the West.
This is the same ideological rot that infected much of the Western left during the Syrian revolution. When Syrians rose up against a brutal dictatorship, much of the anti-war left turned their backs. They romanticized Assad as a “secular anti-imperialist” and cheered on Russian and Iranian intervention, just because it wasn’t American. The only ‘Syrians’ they recognized were the ones who confirmed their own geopolitical fantasies. The rest-pro-democracy protesters, revolutionaries, civilians- were silenced, smeared, or erased.'
