The healer also needs healing.

The planner also needs surprises.

The giver also needs to receive.

The thoughtful also needs to be thought of.

The considerate also needs to be considered.

The compassionate also needs to receive empathy.

I have the kind of courage you will not understand. I am far from blind, far from indifferent. I will not add to the despair of the world. I am working on counterpoison. I create a space in which people can breathe, restore their faith and strength to live. ~Anais Nin

β€œPeople aren’t good or bad. They’re good and bad.”

Imagine you're talking to God about the person you want to become...

- You say "I want to be courageous."

- God replies "Then I will give you monsters to terrify you. That way you can conquer them."

You say "I want to be patient."

- God replies "Then I will make you work harder and longer. That way you can learn to wait."

- You say "I want to be wise."

God replies "Then I will give you failures that will crush your spirit. That way you can learn the value of judgment."

- You then say... "That sounds like a hard life.

Can you give me a good life?"

- God replies "Just like we measure the quality of a blacksmith by the strength of his steel, I measure you by what you are at the end, not the fire and the hammer it took to make you. A good life isn't an easy life. A good life makes you into a good person. And that, my child, is a hard life."

β€œYou always learn from observing. You have to pick things up nonverbally because people will never tell you what you’re supposed to know. You have to get it for yourself: whatever it is that you need in order to survive. You become strong by doing the things you need to be strong for. This is the way genuine learning takes place.”

Mike Posner's 5 Lessons on happiness from the Ted Talk

1. Not all crazy ideas are great, but all great ideas are crazy. Sometimes, you have to pursue an idea that others might deem "crazy" to achieve great things.

2. Step one is to take one step. The first step is always the hardest. Once you take that first step, the rest will become easier.

3. When it comes to things you care about, your reasons to quit are always excuses in disguise. Don't let fear or self-doubt hold you back from pursuing your dreams.

4. True happiness comes from growth. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and challenging yourself is essential for personal growth and happiness.

5. Don't wait. Don't put off your dreams or goals. Start working towards them today.

If you're ambitious but lazy

The problem is inertia – the tendency for things at rest to stay at rest. We perceive tasks as massive mountains, making that initial push feel impossible. So, we choose distraction over action.

How to overcome procrastination:

* Make starting ridiculously easy. Don't tackle the entire mountain at once. Break it down into tiny, manageable steps. Instead of a 5,000-word essay, aim for 50 words. Reduce the perceived effort and inertia loses its grip.
* Use the 2-minute rule. Commit to doing something for just two minutes. Cleaning? Put on a song and clean until it ends. Chances are you'll keep going.

Once you overcome inertia, momentum takes over. Like a ball rolling downhill, it becomes easier to keep moving. Just take that first step. You don't need to see the whole staircase.
