2. Cut a length of insulated copper wire, about 30 cm (12 inches) long.
3. Remove the insulation from both ends of the wire.
4. Wrap the wire around the foam board or cardboard to create a coil with about 10-15 turns.
5. Leave two equal-length ends of wire sticking out from the coil.
6. Attach the coil to the battery by connecting one end of the wire to the positive terminal and the other end to the negative terminal.
7. Balance the small magnet on the loop of the paperclip or safety pin, ensuring it is attracted to the coil.
8. Give the magnet a gentle spin and watch it continue to rotate!
