NEWS BRIEF

In a statement on 11 October, the Tigray External Affairs Office said the federal government had relaunched coordinated offensives on all fronts, fielding hundreds of thousands of regular and irregular armed forces.

The regional government office said that yesterday morning’s attack included heavy artillery, tanks, rockets, drones, and fighter jets, and that the federal and Amhara forces had an “annihilationist” intent.

The statement said Tigray’s government has no option other than to defend the people of Tigray against the “marauding” forces and that it will continue a campaign of self-defense until they choose a peaceful path.

For peace to happen, a return to the “status quo ante” is needed, it said. This means the withdrawal of Eritrean and Amhara forces from all the “constitutional established territories of Tigray”, and the lifting of the siege.
TRACING THE BORENA EXECUTIONS

Shocking video footage of members of the Oromia Special Force shooting dead two unarmed youth, reportedly near Hidilola town of Mio Woreda in Borena Zone, found its way to social media on 12 October.

Though not verified, fragments of information suggest the extrajudicial executions most likely took place in late August.

A 21 August Facebook post said Tara Gura Galgalo was taken from detention at Oromia Special Force camp in Hidilola to an unknown place.

That post said Tara survived and managed to move himself to a roadside.

He was found by locals and taken to Moyale hospital.

Another Facebook post on 23 August said the body of a prisoner called Dereje Birhanu was found around Oromia Special Force camp in Hidilola after security forces took him out of the detention center.

A full-throated defence of Abiy Ahmed and all his works after a recent EI comment piece called his resignation.

We remain one of the very few Ethiopian media spaces that caters for a wide range of viewpoints.

If you don't think your stance has been platformed, that is probably because we did not receive a contribution, not because we rejected them all.
