Blessed Feast of St. Benedict!
Forwarded from Classical Theist
I always remain as careful as I can be when it comes to criticism of the Pope, but this is just an indefensibly scandalous thing to say and anyone who defends this statement out of misplaced zeal is unwittingly undermining the faith
"The Hebrew children, bearing branches of olive, went forth to meet the Lord, crying out, and saying: Hosanna in the highest!"
Introit for Monday in Holy Week, Ps. 34, "Judge Thou, O Lord, them that wrong me, overthrow them that fight against me: take hold of arms and shield, and rise up to help me, O Lord, the strength of my salvation. Bring out the sword, and shut up the way against them that persecute me: say to my soul, I am thy salvation."

St. Augustine speaks of this psalm in his Enarrationes in Psalmos, “Here we understand the voice of Christ; the voice, of course, of both the head and body of Christ. When you hear of Christ, do not separate the groom from the bride, but understand that great mystery, ‘and the two shall be in one flesh.’ … the Lord suffered by His will, we by necessity; He in His compassion, we in our condition. Therefore, His voluntary passion is our necessary consolation… however much the enemy raged, he was able to come only so far as the death of the body; and yet, was not able to destroy it in the case of the Lord, because He rose on the third day. That which came to pass in Him on the third day, the same shall happen to our body at the end of the age. The hope of our resurrection is put off: is it therefore taken away? Let us therefore recognize herein the words of Christ…”
Introit for Tuesday in Holy Week, Galatians vi. 14

"It behooves us to glory in the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ: in whom is our salvation, life, and resurrection: by whom we are saved and delivered."
Introit for Wednesday in Holy Week

"At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth; because the Lord became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross: therefore the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father."
"The Church commences her chants with one to the glory of the Holy Name of Jesus, outraged as it is, on this day, by them that plot his Death. This Name, which was given him by heaven, and signifies that he is our Saviour, is now being blasphemed by his enemies: in a few hours, their crime will bring its full meaning before us, for his Death will have worked the Salvation of the world." -Dom Prosper Guéranger
℟. My friend hath betrayed me by the sign of a kiss: Whom I shall kiss, that is he; hold him fast: this was the wicked sign given by him, who committed murder by a kiss. The unhappy wretch returned the price of Blood, and, in the end, hanged himself.

V. It had been well for that man, had he never been born. The unhappy wretch returned the price of Blood, and, in the end, hanged himself.
"And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke: and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat. This is my body."
"O all ye that pass by on the road, pay attention and see:
if there be sorrow like unto my sorrow."
They have dug my hands and feet.

They have numbered all my bones. And they have looked and stared upon me.

They parted my garments amongst them; and upon my vesture they cast lots.
Behold the wood of the Cross, on which hung the Savior of the world. Come, let us adore.
Let the angelic choirs of Heaven now rejoice; let the divine Mysteries rejoice; and let the trumpet of salvation sound forth the victory of so great a King. Let the earth also rejoice, made radiant by such splendor; and, enlightened with the brightness of the eternal King, let it know that the darkness of the whole world is scattered. Let our mother the Church also rejoice, adorned with the brightness of so great a light; and let this temple resound with the loud acclamations of the people. Wherefore I beseech you, most beloved brethren, who are here present in the wondrous brightness of this holy light, to invoke wtih me the mercy of almighty God. That He who has vouchsafed to admit me among the Levites, without any merits of mine, would pour forth the brightness of His light upon me, and enable me to perfect the praise of this wax candle. Through our Lord Jesus Christ His Son, Who with Him and the Holy Ghost liveth and reigneth one God for ever and ever.

A brief explanation of 5 vast themes for meditation on the Passion of Christ:

I - How much Jesus suffered — more than anyone ever has
II - What Jesus achieved — our Redemption, opening Heaven
III - Establishing Holy Mass — so we can be there on Calvary
IV - Fruitful Cross — glorious Masses cover the whole world
V - Key of Creation — the roots of His Sacrifice go back to Eden
"And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils: they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover. And the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God. But they going forth preached everywhere: the Lord working withal, and confirming the word with signs that followed." -Mark XVI: 15-20
