Early 20th century when Bristol Road was called Bath Road, though this photo refers to it as Bank Street in error. The building at the end of this row was the Wingrove Hotel. All were demolished in 1971 for the Vicarage Green development.

Henry Moore, working as a war artist, was making sketches of people sheltering from the air raids for his famous “Sleepers” series.

On this occasion he was being filmed for a documentary by Two Cities Films, directed by Jill Craigie.
