a schizo thought - massgrave is hosted on github, and has been hosted on github for a long time, without any repercussions for them or their developers, let alone any legal repercussions. microsoft has entertained massgrave's r&d - including things like tsforge - and allowed it to fester and populate. why?

because microsoft has reached a stage in its development where windows/office are no longer cash cows but monopoly pressure points. moving off of these products is difficult, and for a lot of larger institutions, economically infeasible, and their intent is to keep it that way. meanwhile for smaller clients, like european governments (which there is a significant amount of), it's certainly feasible to move to self-hosted, sane turnkeys like collabora office.

microsoft may be losing money, but they retain their monopoly. if, or, rather, when they go under, the us gov and other governments around the world will have to spare shekel in order to restore them, because they will never consider how much cheaper overall it would be to move away from them for good when it's so expensive to take that initial, single step.
