Hello everyone

These past couple of months have been quite the roller coaster ride for Ethiopia. We’ve experienced a national level of pride and unity (albeit with a strange thirst for war) that almost made us forget the anxiety we developed after COVID-19 came.

Which was quickly followed by a sudden death that shook the country that almost eclipsed the entire country over ethnic violence. Before that, globally, the black lives matter movement was once again on center stage after the death of George Flyod which made some of us question the violence and injustices happening in our own country. It made us question if we were bystanders or didn’t have a choice to be bystanders given the complex nature of our country’s unique blend of nationalism and politics.

It’s a strange question. Especially when everything is grey and it’s hard to put the blame on a specific thing or person. Which begs the question, what can we do after this. Maybe the youth should put aside all differences, listen to each other and build a country better than the one we walked in?

We don’t have the answers but maybe the people we will feature this month might have some of the answers. These are creatives that run businesses or make art that marries social responsibility and creativity. From artisans that make amazing notebooks to artists that keep giving voices to marginalized voices in the country. We have enjoyed talking to these artists and we hope you’ll treasure their work as much as we do.

We also have an addition in our team! Yay! We’re growing! Abel Demisis Muleta who will be helping us with our digital presence and the technical stuff behind the social media!

As always,
Keep Getzing and fight the good fight!

“I believe art is a means to an end and that it’s true purpose is to have its viewers consider the important questions. The role of an artist is to simplify and find the perfect perspective that engages audiences. In that sense, social conversation and art are one and the same. “- @hermenleul (Instagram)
