Studying for my policing exam and the prof spews out the Broken Window Theory as if it wasn't absolute bs
It goes like this im not even joking:
broken window -> people are more entitled to do vandalism - > less respect -> big crime
talk abt conflating correlation and causation mg
but with the preface "the reduction of crime rate *might* not be entirely related to thus implemented policing policies" (which were for instance stop-and-frisk in NY in the 80s, a notable RACIST policy)

and policing researchers are just doing mental gymnastics to justify and philosophize on an institution that used to be (pick your imperialist champion) :
- France: kick poor people outta cities, control colonized bodies, protesters
- England: fight against piracy, put poor people in jail and then colonies
- US: retrieve slaves, and then "freed" black people, infiltrate unions, remove poor and disabled people from sight
- Switzerland: control workers, do intel on union members, anarchists, THE POOR
see a pattern

the idea of the police as the entity of legitimate non-negotiable usage of force ceases to be arguable when most scholars, police heads and such advocate for "pre-crime", predictive or "problem-oriented" policing

i know most scholars are refuting the standard mode of law enforcement, but I can't see how this doesn't lead to the hyper-militarization or street harassement we have nowadays
