On the second day of Google I/O, the company released the second beta version of Android 15, which is now also available on the Pixel 8a. Anyone can install it, but still we do not recommend doing so, for this is a Beta.

Information about the new features will be detailed in the next posts.

Android 15 Beta 2 adds " Private Space" — the ability to hide apps on your device.

Private space lets users create a separate space on their device where they can keep sensitive apps away from prying eyes, under an additional layer of authentication. The private space uses a separate user profile. When a user locks the private space, the profile is paused and any apps in the private space are no longer active. The user can choose to use the device lock or a separate lock factor for the private space.

Apps in the private space show up in a separate container in the launcher, and are hidden from the recents view, notifications, settings, and from other apps when the private space is locked. User-generated and downloaded content (such as media or files) and accounts are separated between the private space and the main space.

The system sharesheet and the photo picker can be used to give apps access to content across spaces when the private space is unlocked.

*Since apps in the private space have restricted visibility,
some types of apps need to take additional steps to be able to see and interact with apps in a user's private space.

❗️Caution: There is a known issue when creating a private space on a device for the first time removes app icons from the Home screen. Google will release a bug fix soon.

Android 15 Beta 2: Redesigned Sound & Vibration bottom sheet.

The menu that appears when you tap "..." under the volume slider has been redesigned. The sound controls now have wide fill bars with animated interaction.

And for the Pixel Buds Pro headphones, in addition to the noise-canceling mode control, there's also now a spatial audio mode control: With Tracking, Without Tracking, Disabled."

Also, you can now always switch audio output devices whether you're currently playing media content or not.

Android 15 Beta 2: Predictive back gesture is now enabled by default.

Previously, predictive gesture backwards existed as an option in developer settings. This option has now been removed, and predictive gesture will work by default for apps that support it.

When an app supports predictive back gesture, you will see where the back gesture will take you when it ends. (examples in the video)

Predictive back gesture animation has also appeared in the system interface quick settings window and in the Pixel Launcher elements (widget list, Launcher settings).

The feature has been in development since Android 13. In Android 14 it got support for in-app transitions, and now in Android 15 it will finally be enabled by default.

Android 15 Beta 2: Improvements to widget previews in the widget list.

Before Android 15, the only way to provide widget picker previews was to specify a static image or layout resource. These previews often differ significantly from the look of the actual widget when it is placed on the home screen.

Also, static resources can't be created with Jetpack Glance, so a Glance developer had to screenshot their widget or create an XML layout to have a widget preview.

Android 15 adds support for generated previews. This means that app widget providers can generate RemoteViews to use as the picker preview, instead of a static resource.
