Twenty-four happy children finally received four large boxes filled with surprises from the Netherlands. There were also tools and other items for the adults. The children had never owned any toys before and were all born homeless. As you can imagine, they were very excited!
Worldwide, 1 in 50 people are homeless. That's more than 160 million people living on the streets! But before you sink into a deep depression, this is a message of hope.
On a small island in the Bohol Strait, there is a house on the tide line where 24 children and 4 adults live. At high tide, the youngest jump from the balustrade into the salty sea, playing and screaming with joy.
Not so long ago, these kids, all born homeless, were roaming the streets of busy Cebu, the fourth largest city in the Philippines. Living in the gutter of such a busy, dirty metropolis is bad for everyone, but especially for young children. Because everywhere on earth there are nasty people who are only too happy to take advantage of such vulnerable children.
But now comes the hopeful part: thanks to our Freedom Island foundation, they now live a little further away by the sea.
The mainstay of the project are Dulci and Charlene. Before dawn, these young ladies get up to cook a huge pan of delicious food. Not only for the children and adults at home, but also to sell the rest in the village.

We have bought a few buildings so that the children have a real home, can go to school, and can safely build a better future. According to local media, a series of explosions have been heard near the Thai-Myanmar border since Friday (24 Oct), when Myanmar military troops started bombing buildings tied to scam operations in KK Park. The complex, which lies across the Moei River from the Thai border town of Mae Sot, is a notorious hub for cybercrime and human trafficking. Around 1,000 people are believed to have fled the compound, crossing into Thailand.
Activities included illegal detention, kidnapping, human trafficking, forced labour, fraud (including telecommunications and network fraud), extortion, intentional injury, abuse, torture, rape, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, illegal hacking of citizens' personal information, money laundering, operating casinos, manipulating online gambling, theft, robbery, murder, intentional homicide, organ trafficking, harbouring, organising smuggling across the country, transporting others across the country, participating in criminal groups, leading criminal groups, demanding ransoms, economically exploiting people, depriving people of their personal liberty, insulting people, threatening people and intimidating people.
This complex criminal organisation could not have been run without the knowledge and involvement of high-ranking army officials. They are destroying evidence only because the case has recently received a lot of international attention following the disappearance and murder of Vera Kravtsova, a 26-year-old Belarusian singer and model.
