Receipts are not as simple as they seem. They are made from special thermal paper, and the printing on the paper appears as the result of local heating, not ink. It seems like a good idea, but there is a problem: to give the paper these properties, a bunch of nasty things are added to it, including the infamous bisphenol-A (or BPA). This small “parasite” can destroy the hormones the body needs and harm the reproductive system. And, by the way, it can penetrate the body through the skin.

And the receipt paper is not recyclable. It goes to landfills.
Unfortunately, stores do not sell goods without receipts, and they, so far, have been difficult to get rid of. But you can always refuse receipts at an ATM. Instead, click “show balance on screen,” or request it in SMS or email!
