The smug willing ignorance of most people at the turn of the millennium who all thought the world was on the up and up and “history” was over looks like a relic now. I’d bet that many, many people who watched this when it first came out now wish they had supported the BNP when they had the chance.
The presenters near the end make out like the BNP had already lost and that Britain was now just a sterile rock in the sea home to everyone and no one at the same time, clearly trying to demoralise and discourage those who sympathised with their views. However this legitimised the claims of the BNP, the BBC didn’t dispute that the nationalists were correct in their assertions that Britain was being taken away from us and given to foreigners, but merely that the takeover had already happened and that we should just accept it and roll over and die.
Once again, this sort of fatalism was merely a sort of deliberate demoralisation. I’m sure even apolitical normal people now wish they had the Britain of 1999 as opposed to the Britain of 2025. We were promised a prosperous and golden future, and we’re living in that broken promise.
