Kenya Power to Interrupt Pre-Paid Tokens on June 2nd

Utility provider Kenya Power, has advised customers to buy enough tokens before Sunday 2nd June ahead of a planned 24-hour system interruption that will render the pre-paid service unavailable.

We wish to inform our customers that the prepaid token vending system will be unavailable from 10:00 PM, Sunday, 2nd June to 10:00 PM, Monday, 3rd June to enable us to upgrade our systems for improved service delivery,” Kenya Power said in a statement.

Ghana Signs MoU to Restructure US$5.4 Billion of Debt

Ghana has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its bilateral creditors, including China and France, to restructure $5.4 billion of debt.

The MoU provides a framework for restructuring loans from official creditors, following an agreement by the Paris Club in January.

Both new and existing loans issued by KCB Bank Group will be affected by the hiked interest rates announced by the institution on May 27th.

KCB’s new base lending rate stands at 15.6% per annum, rising from the 14.7% per annum rate that has been in place since January 15th.

UPDATE: Heineken will pay Kenyan distributor Maxam Sh1.8 billion for illegally terminating a contract to distribute its products in Kenya, following a Court order.
Standard Chartered Bank Kenya recorded a 39.5% increase in profit to KSh 5.62bn for the first quarter of 2024, up from KSh 4.03 bn in the same period in 2023.

The growth is primarily attributed to a decent 21.4% increase in total operating income.

Both funded and non funded income saw double digit growth recording 20.0% and 23.9% increases respectively.
