US-China Diplomatic and Trade Tiffs Play Out in Tech

The ongoing distrust between the United States and China has degenerated into export controls, threats of sanctions, and outright demands for dissociation – causing ripples in the tech industry.

Recently, the U.S revoked companies’ licences to export chips to China-based Huawei.

Since 2019 when Huawei was blacklisted by the U.S, Qualcomm and Intel have supplied the smartphone manufacturer with chips amidst tightening regulations.

Cable Cuts Disrupt Internet Access Across East Africa

Internet service providers across East Africa have reported outages and delays in their data networks since Sunday due to damaged submarine cables, in the third such incident this year.

According to connectivity-tracking website, Cloudflare Radar, internet outages in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, and Madagascar were severely affected because their traffic volume declined to 30%.

Ghana Bets on Blockchain to Fight Graft

The Ghanaian government is set to become the first African country to use blockchain technology in its e-government processes, according to the country’s vice president Mahamadu Bawumia.

Speaking at the 14th Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting of the heads of African Anti-corruption agencies held in Accra, Bawumia said blockchain will enable government authorities to detect bogus transactions and fraudulent activity in state systems.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company, CCI Global, aims to create 5,000 jobs for Kenyans after launching its 17th contact center in Tatu City, investing US$ 50 million in a five-storey building.

During the launch attended and commissioned by President William Ruto on May 10, CCI Global highlighted that the facility will host call center agents and managers who will handle BPO operations for businesses across the region.
