📍 The difference between: Near – Next to – Close… Are you using them correctly?
Many English learners think these three words mean the same thing, but each one has a different use!
Let’s understand the differences with easy examples 👇

🔸 Near = not far (but not touching)
Used when something is close, but not right beside something else.
Example:
“The bank is near the supermarket.”
→ They are on the same street maybe, but not directly next to each other.

🔸 Next to = directly beside (touching or very close)
Used when two things are right beside each other without space.
Example:
“The pharmacy is next to the bakery.”
→ They are side by side, no gap between them.

🔸 Close (to) = near (but also used for people and emotions)
It means almost the same as "near", but it's more flexible.
Example:
“My house is close to the park.”
Also used like this:
“We are very close.”
→ Here, you cannot say “We are near” — it would sound strange.

📌 In short:

Next to = directly beside

Near = close, but with some space

Close to = same as near, but also used with people and emotions
