It is indicated by the hadith of Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

“𝗢 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗜 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲.”

A woman from among them said: “And why is that, O Messenger of Allāh?” He said: “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands.”

“The servant may fall short in fulfilling the rights of Allāh — whether in obligatory duties or avoiding prohibitions, and 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

‼️𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗶𝗳 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 — 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 — this will erase his shortcomings, just as a loan is repaid by fulfilling its due.”
