Last week, the Liquid Federation and Blockstream kicked off the first of many bootcamps in Viareggio, Italy! Next up: Taipei, Taiwan!

We’re building a global developer network and actively seeking partners to join us. Reach out to us to explore collaboration opportunities—your city could be our next stop!
Big news in the world of RWAs: Alongside Bitfinex Securities, NexBridge is issuing US Treasury bills (USTBL) leveraging Bitcoin's Liquid Network and Blockstream’s AMP technology. The initial offering has a soft cap of $30 million, providing investors with efficient access to U.S. Treasury returns through a regulated digital asset structure.

Digital asset issuer and new member of the Liquid Federation, NexBridge, has successfully oversubscribed the initial offering of $30 million for USTBL, a token representing US Treasury bills on the Liquid Network, in less than 72 hours.

What is the Nick Szabo School of Economics?

Adolfo Contreras at Blockstream explains Bitcoin as a form of private property and its ability to scale trust without relying on institutions. Liquid expands this concept to capital markets, enabling societies that may lack institutional trust and rule of law, to build their own financial markets that can compete with the first world. 🌐🌊

The third official Liquid Developer Bootcamp has concluded! Over 35 software developers from El Salvador and LATAM joined us for two days of learning:

Elements: FOSS Bitcoin sidechain platform that Liquid is built on
LWK: Rust tools for building apps on Liquid
Boltz: Lightning<>Liquid bridge
Breez: Nodeless (Liquid) SDK
Blitz: Bitcoin wallet built on LWK and Boltz

Where to next?
Traditional financial markets, with complex regulations and intermediaries, are costly and hinder growth. A secure, Bitcoin-based financial network, such as Liquid, enables economies in LATAM to connect valuable local assets with global liquidity with minimal overhead.

A real-world example is in Mexico, where local NBFIs are tokenizing promissory notes on Liquid to increase lending, utilizing previously illiquid assets as collateral to connect with global investors and financial institutions.

Federation update: A new ELIP dubbed 'DustCT' has been proposed by Kilian Rausch from Boltz and other members of the Federation's tech board to lower Liquid's dust limit, allowing for significantly smaller transactions (~21 sats) on the network.

Implementation work is already in full swing for wallet tools: Elements Core, GDK, and LWK. For more information on Elements Improvement Proposals (ELIPs) and how to propose your own, visit the official repo:

The Liquid Federation is excited to share two recent growth milestones: the successful election of 2025 governance boards and the addition of five new member companies to the Federation, bringing total membership to 81. Together, these developments reinforce the Federation’s commitment to supporting decentralization, driving Liquid’s global reach and building Bitcoin-native capital markets.

The latest release of Elements (23.3.0) enables Liquid functionary operators to begin signaling support.

Similar to how a soft fork works in Bitcoin, Elements requires a certain threshold of acceptance over the course of an epoch. In this instance, activation requires 100% support from all functionary operators over a window of 10,080 blocks.

Today, two more functionaries began signaling for support. Keep an eye on the Simplicity tracker below and follow as it unfolds in real-time!

Simplicity update: There are now ten Liquid functionary operators signaling for the deployment of the much-anticipated smart contracting language, which brings easier developer UX and expressivity to Bitcoin L2.

What are you most excited to start building?
