ETH just baffles me

Ten Hag: "This club can only have outstanding players because the expectations are so high. #mufc is the biggest, or maybe second or third, biggest club in the world, the highest fanbase so expectations will always be there. Everyone has an opinion about Manchester United and it can only be outstanding players.” [Sky]
Ten Hag: “That's players who have all the skillset, that is the physical and especially the mental skillset they need to perform and contribute because we have to win every game. There's an expectation around every game from us so you can only fulfil that expectation when you have those outstanding players.” [Sky] #mufc
Ten Hag when asked about not getting De Jong: “But in the last decade and in this period, we couldn't always get the players we wanted. But then you have to build and you have to accept that you get talent in instead of players who already proved it in the past.” [Sky] #mufc
TLDR from Ten Hag's press conference:
- We wanted De Jong, ideally playing alongside Casemiro to complement each other in midfield. Didn't happen
-Hojlund signing was second choice, Harry Kane was the priority. Hojlund isn't at Kane's level (guaruntees 30+ goals a season) but needs time to get there.
-Believes that the model established last season is a pathway for great success in the future, and will continue to stick to it. 'We need time.'
-Has been heavy focus on the academy and will continue to be, citing United's FA Youth Cup win and the rise of Mainoo/Garnacho through the academy under ETH
-Says United desperately need high level players on the level of Mainoo and Garnacho to keep up with other teams in football due to the fast paced nature the game is developing.
-Believes that most of the transfers made (Onana, Hojlund, Mount) were good decisions that would have been able to take us to the next level if not for injuries sustained this season
-Believes most injuries, especially to the back line, sustained this season were mainly due to bad luck, which has greatly affected the way United played this season
-Claims that United have persisted with playing a dynamic, proactive style rather than being more pragmatic because its the style that he wants to continue and instill into the future
-Blames United having conceded 600 shots on goal this season on the lack of a consistent back 4, citing that we kept the most clean sheets last season under him
-Believes that United can play more 'in the Ajax style' if they had gotten Frenkie De Jong, and he would have complemented Casemiro well.
