Melissa was a proud and patriotic Irish woman, whose love for her country was an example to us all. Her devotion to Ireland and her steadfast spirit will be remembered with respect and gratitude.

At this time of sorrow, we keep her family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.

The National Party believes that foreign ownership of property should be tightly restricted and that under no circumstances should IPAS, temporary protection applicants or international students be given a 'leg up' or access to programmes designed to help struggling Irish couples and families in buying a home.

Today the Electoral Commission has rejected an obstructionist appeal made by Justin Barrett, which had aimed to frustrate the will of the National Party’s membership which has repeatedly expressed that it wants to move forward. We welcome the decision to throw out this appeal.

The Register of Political Parties will now be updated with properly elected officers of the party, and the names James Reynolds and Justin Barrett will be removed for good on foot of motions passed at last year’s Ard Fheis.
