#Hiking Over #Tulluu_Guddoo (Debre ), Lake Dembel's Largest Island
The name Tulluu Guddoo in Afaan Oromoo literally means 'The Big Hill' - an apt name for the mountainous island that is Lake Dembel's (Ziway Lake’s) largest. Reaching a peak elevation of more than 1800 metres above sea level, the island has a nice warm climate all year round. Tulluu Guddoo is populated by the #Zay_people, a unique cultural, linguistic, and religious group that have inhabited the islands on Lake Dembel for centuries. Ever since the arrival of the first Ark of the Covenant (Tabot) more than a thousand years ago, the island has been an important religious site for pilgrimages. Pilgrims - the most ancient of travelers - from all over the country would bring their cultures and languages and intermix becoming today's Zay people. Travel, history, culture, and spirituality all rolled into one is the story of this gorgeous island on Lake Dembel.
