Consultative Workshop held on Agri-tech and Green Energy Technologies

In a bid to foster collaboration in the realm of agricultural technology and green energy, the Sustainable Energy Center of Excellence at the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) in partnership with Farm Africa Ethiopia convened a consultative workshop on April 30, 2024. The event, graced by Dr. Abraham Debebe, Vice President for Research and Technology at AASTU, set the stage for fruitful discussions aimed at leveraging innovation for sustainable development.
Dr. Abraham, in his opening remarks, underscored AASTU's commitment to bridging the gap between research and practical application, emphasizing the university's mission to serve the end user through impactful innovation. Highlighting AASTU's strategic vision and the array of transferable technologies available for partnerships, he stressed the importance of commercializing innovations to drive societal progress sustainably.
On another front, Mr. Ayele Feleke, Program Manager at Farm Africa, provided a comprehensive overview of the organization. He delineated Farm Africa's thematic areas and identified practical technology challenges necessitating intervention. Mr. Ayele Feleke underscored the multifaceted challenges encompassing environment, agriculture, and energy, emphasizing the potential for collaborative endeavors with AASTU to address these pressing issues. He emphasized that Farm Africa requires interventions in Technologies for small-scale irrigation, solar and water lifting technologies, Technologies for agriculture production value addition, Energy for cooking technology, and water efficiency.
Further enriching the dialogue, Mr. Arkbom Hailu , staff and researcher at AASTU expounded on the significant past and ongoing collaborative endeavors between AASTU and Farm Africa. His presentation shed light on the major activities undertaken, showcasing the synergy between the two entities in tackling pertinent challenges at the intersection of agriculture and sustainable energy.
Finally, the workshop reached its pinnacle through panel discussions, where experts delved deeper into the identified areas of collaboration and charted a clear path forward. The exchange of ideas and experiences culminated in concrete action plans aimed at harnessing the power of technology and innovation to foster sustainable development in Ethiopia and beyond.

Addis Ababa Science and Technology University and Adika Ventures (Adika Taxi Service PLC) have inked a memorandum of understanding aimed at fostering collaboration in various domains. The agreement entails the establishment of a joint internship program and the organization of a micro-commercial kitchen design competition. These initiatives are designed to facilitate the development of students' creative abilities and provide them with practical experience in their respective fields.
Under the terms of the MOU, Adika Ventures will offer conducive environments for students from architecture and computer-related departments to undertake internship programs within the organization. This partnership is poised to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, skills development, and networking opportunities between academia and the industry, thereby benefiting both parties involved.

Ejigu Tefera has achieved academic excellence at the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) by successfully defending his PhD dissertation titled "Ensemble Deep Learning Framework with Cluster-based User Profiles Identification for Energy Consumption Prediction." Under the guidance of advisors Francisco Martínez-Álvarez, Dr. Kula Kekeba, and Dr. Maria del Mar Martinez, he becomes the first candidate to defend his thesis in the history of the AASTU Software Engineering Department.
His research confronts the challenges posed by the non-linearity and high variability of residential energy consumption data, emphasizing the critical importance of precise household energy prediction for efficient grid operation and power distribution scheduling. የአዲስ አበባ ሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የማህበረሰብ አሳታፊ ዳይሬክቶሬት የሳይንስ- ፈጠራ ባህልን ለማሳደግ ከሚሰራቸው ስራዎች መካከል አንዱ በአካባቢው ለሚገኙ የሁለተኛ ደረጃ ተማሪዎች በሳይንስ፣ ቴክኖሎጂ፣ ምህንድስና እና ሂሳብ ትምህርቶች ስልጠና መስጠት ነው። በዚህም ዩኒቨርሲቲው በዘጠኝ ወራት ውስጥ ለ1041 የሚሆኑ ተማሪዎች በሶስት ደረጃዎች ስልጠና መስጠቱ ተገልጿል። ከዚህ ጋር ተያይዞ ስልጠናውን የወሰዱ የ3ተኛ ደረጃ ሰልጣኞች ከስልጠናው ያገኙትን እውቀት ተጠቅመው የሰሯቸውን 10 የፈጠራ ስራዎች ለውድድር አቅርበዋል። በውድድሩም ተማሪዎች ስለ ሰሯቸው የፕሮጀክት ስራዎች አስራር እና ፋይዳ ገለፃ ያደረጉ ሲሆን ከቀረቡት 10 ፕሮጀክቶች መካከል ሶስት ምርጥ ፈጠራዎችን በመለየት ሽልማት እንዲያገኙ ተደርጓል።
የዩኒቨርሲቲውን ፕሬዝዳንት በመወከል የአካዳሚክ ጉዳዮች ም/ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ከማል ኢብራሂም መርሃ-ግብሩን አስጀምረዋል። ዶ/ር ከማል በመክፈቻ ንግግራቸው ዩኒቨርሲቲው በማህበረሰብ አሳታፊ ዘርፍ ማህበረሰቡን ሊጠቅሙ ሚችሉ መሰል ስልጠናዎችን እየሰጠ መሆነን ገልጸዋል። ነገ በዓለም አቀፍም ይሁን በሃገር አቀፍ ደረጃ በሳይንስ፣ ቴክኖሎጂ እና ፈጠራ ዘርፍ የተሻሉ ተወዳዳሪ ፈጣሪዎችን ለማፍራት ዩኒቨርሲቲው የጀመረውን ስራ አጠናክሮ እንደሚቀጥል ገልፀዋል።
ከዚህ በተጨማሪ የኢትዮጵያ ሳይንስ አካዳሚ ስራ አስፈፃሚ ፕሮፊሰር ተከተል ዮሃንስ በመርሃ ግብሩ ላይ ተገኝተው ለተማሪዎች ሃሳባቸውን አካፍለዋል። ፕሮፌሰር ተከተል ይህ የቴክኖሎጂ ዘመን ለትምህርት ምቹ ሁኔታን የሚፈጥር መሆኑን ገልፀው ተማሪዎች ይህን መልካም አጋጣሚ ለሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ ፈጠራ ስራዎች እንዲጠቀሙ አሳስበዋል። ይህም በቀጣይ ለሃገራቸው የሳይንስና ቴክኖሎጂ የፈጠራ ስራዎች እድገት ወሳኝ ሚና እንዲጫወቱ ከማድረግ አንፃር ትልቅ አስተዋፅኦ እንዳለው አስረድተዋል።
በሳይንስ እና ምህንድስና ውድድሩ ላይ አሸናፊ ለሆኑ ተማሪዎች የምስክር ወረቀት እና ልዩ ልዩ ሽልማቶች ተበርክቶላቸዋል።
