AI and Robotics Center of Excellence at AASTU organized a Seminar
February 19, 2025
+++++++++++++++++++
The AI and Robotics Center of Excellence at AASTU organized a seminar titled "Local Language Models in Distributed Environments – the Growth-Market for Ethiopia," featuring Professor Josef Noll from the University of Oslo and Secretary General of the Basic Internet Foundation.
The seminar explored key differences between large and local language models. While large models can handle complex queries, they require significantly higher energy and face challenges in global competition. In contrast, local language models provide quick and relevant responses, enhance privacy, and effectively address real-world needs.
Professor Noll emphasized the need to equip Ethiopian schools and communities with Raspberry Pi devices to promote local AI solutions and bridge the digital divide.
