Training on Microscope Operation and Maintenance Provided for Local Teachers, May 10, 2025.
In its ongoing effort to enhance the quality of education in surrounding schools, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) has been offering both practical and theoretical training for teachers. As part of this initiative, the university delivered a specialized training session on microscope operation and maintenance for teachers from Akaki Kality, Gelan, and Koye Feche sub-cities .The goal of the training is to equip teachers with essential skills in microscope operation and maintenance, enabling them to effectively teach both the practical and theoretical aspects of microscopy to their students.

Intensive Training for Ethiopian Researchers on Mineral Processing Held
The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) has enhanced researchers’ capacity in mineral resource development through a specialized training program. From March 31 to April 4, researchers from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), who are members of the mineral exploration and extraction center of excellence, participated in intensive training on mineral processing and metal extraction.

AASTU Signed MoU with Seoul National University’s Global R&DB Center, May 07/2025.
Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Research and Development Center of Seoul National University (SNU). This partnership aims to enhance cooperation in the field of smart city development as AASTU is developing curriculum in this field.
In a statement, Prof. Junseok Hwang, the Director of GRC in SNU, emphasized the significant work ahead for both institutions. He expressed optimism about the potential advancements that this collaboration will bring, focusing on innovative solutions for urban challenges.

Two Ph.D. candidates from AASTU have successfully defended their dissertations. Abu Feyisa Meka, from the Department of Biotechnology, defended his dissertation titled "Integrative Metagenomics and Culture-Based Insights into Microbial Diversity, Biosynthetic Gene Clusters, and Bioactive Compounds of Sof Umer Cave Microbiomes, Ethiopia." His research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mesfin Tafesse (Associate Professor) and Dr. Musin Kelel (Associate Professor). Abiy Lolasa, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, defended his dissertation titled "Synthesis and Evaluation of Bentonite/Cellulose-Based Composite Hydrogel for Removal of Pb(II) from Wastewater." He conducted his research under the supervision of Professor Nurlign Tefera (Main Advisor), with Dr. Getachew Adam and Dr. Eyobel Mulugeta as Co-Advisors. Congratulations to Abu Feyisa and Abiy Lolasa on their successful defenses!
