"Beyond Borders: Tracing the Timeless Threads of Bharat Mata in Global Context"
The concept of Bharat Mata finds resonance in historical depictions of national identity across cultures. In Roman times, the province of Britannia was personified as Britannia—a woman adorned with a Roman helmet, wielding a trident, and riding a chariot pulled by lions.
Similarly, the French Revolution introduced Lady Liberty, donning a Phrygian cap, while the American War of Independence envisioned Lady Colombia, a precursor to the iconic Statue of Liberty built in the 1920s.
This tradition echoes the ancient cult of the Mother Goddess, with parallels to figures like Notre Dame or Our Lady in Christianity.
Historian Eric Hobswam expands on this, citing examples like Mexico's Virgin of Guadalupe and Catalonia's Virgin of Montserrat which have emotionally and visually shaped the identity of nations and fostered a sense of unity.
