Triad is some of TOOL’s best work
This was the song that made me a TOOL fan, I had had sober and schism on my playlist for months by that point, never considered myself a fan. I knew their big hits and enjoyed them. One night I was driving alone listening to the radio, and for whatever reason they played Triad, which I initially didn't recognize the sound, I realized it was TOOL, and spent the first minute or so waiting for lyrics or a change or build up to lyrics, the booming drums, the weird rhythm (weird to me as someone who had only listened to mainstream metal). I can't do it justice by just saying weird rhythm, that's a very poor evaluation, but there's something about the song, most instrumental tracks constantly change up to compensate for a lack of lyrics, but triad is the same relentless groove that doesn't really change throughout the entire song, but the drop at 2:54 was absolutely brutal, TOOL is not a very heavy band by any means, but that groove is heavy as shit, it's really aggressive, but melodic, the drums are both super technically tight, as Danny Carey always manages to pull off, but he still puts this frantic and aggressive feeling into the groove that isn't in any other TOOL song. Ever since I heard that song, I put almost half of the bands discography on my daily playlist.

tbh, the Tool subreddit has handled this so much better than any of the psychedelic subreddits. Nice work guys, for real
