Kowloon Walled City, Hong Kong, c. 1990s. The Walled City was an incredibly dangerous illegal settlement located on just one single city block in Hong Kong, eventually being cleared and demolished in 1994. It was the most dense settlement in the world, with a population of 3 million per square mile.
