Which game franchise ruined its winning formula by turning it into something players never asked for?

I think Starbreeze with Payday 3

Normalise hanging out in voice chat with your friends while you’re each playing separate games!

Maybe it’s just me, but with my friend group I feel like there has to be some sort of incentive to hopping on a call/vc. Whether it’s playing a game together or watching something together.

It should be normal to just chill in VC in friends, hell you don’t even have to speak to each other. My friends refuse to join voice calls if there isn’t something to do and it’s such a pain. Is talking not enough for some people?

Idk it might just be the bubble I’m in but I want to know what you guys think

EDIT: I’ve gotten an insane amount of responses from both ends of the conversation. I think it’s pretty cool to see how varied and different other people’s experiences are.

Some people hate staying in voice chats and think it’s distracting, whereas others cannot play without it.

It’s really cool to see how everyone plays their games, I’m glad I posted this!

The Series X really is in a league of its own with game preservation. This game is 20 years old and not available on storefronts digitally.

Gamers 30+, what has changed in your gaming habits compared to when you were younger?

For me thinking about the games instead of playing it
