A Japanese man was so exited for Ghost of Yotei he flew to Hokkaido to climb Mount Yotei and fully immerse himself in the world of the game before it's release.

Report: Microsoft's once concrete plans for the next console generation are now ‘up in the air’ and might never materialize as Xbox is shifting towards becoming a 100% third-party publisher. The company is also said to be planning a massive round of layoffs heading into Q1 2026

What happened to playing just for the sake of gameplay?

Yes, I'm a 90's kid and I don't understand this current mindset that a game is only enjoyable if you have something to unlock." There is nothing to play for."."I've unlocked everything, the game is boring now."." You level up too fast." etc.

Really, whats wrong with these kind of people? What happened to playing because you think the game is fun? Because the gameplay is engaging? Because the atmosphere is good?

Do you really need a carrot on a stick and an arbitrary number going up to enjoy a game? Do you actually, genuinly enjoy a game if that is all the motivation you have?

And its not that I'm immune to this. I've wasted days in Sea of Thieves and GTA Online because I saw the money counter going up. But in GTA, I also now have everything I ever wanted and still play the game, because I enjoy it for what it is once you are over the horrible grind.

Name a mechanic or feature from older games that modern AAA games forgot to bring back.

You ever boot up an older game and said to yourself, "why don't games do this anymore?" For me, it's the cheat codes and unlockables that actually rewarded you for playing and achieving something in-game. It made games feel like little playgrounds that are full of surprises.

Now, all I see these days are achievements and even cosmetics locked behind paywalls. I miss those days where you'd spend hours messing around just to see what the devs added for fun.
