The chat that I never replied
I woke up as usual in the morning,
and saw a message in my close friends’ group —
someone asked if anyone had seen what happened to L.
Curious and uneasy, I opened Facebook.
The news was everywhere.
L was missing.
Our alumni group was already in motion —
checking hospitals, calling customs,
reaching out through every connection they had.
And in that moment, I realized
how powerful an alumni community can be
In disbelief, I opened our old chat.
The last message from him was a broadcast about some plan.
I hadn’t replied as usual.
A wave of guilt hit me,
but deep down, I knew that even if time rewound,
I probably still wouldn’t have replied.
I’ve always kept to myself.
The second-last message was simpler —
he wished me a happy birthday.
I said thanks.
He replied, “Let’s meet if you ever come back to our hometown.”
I knew it was just a polite line, we will never meet, I thought.
I didn’t know him well.
I saw a story someone shared on Instagram,
a group photo from a wedding last year.
We played badminton together a few times.
He never blended in easily,
but he always tried.
He wanted to prove he wasn’t there to sell anything but just to sweat, to laugh, to make friends.
He didn’t care if you didn’t buy from him.
The next day, my junior from my ex-company called.
He asked about L.
I remembered once —
L invited me for a tea break during work.
I brought my junior along that day.
He still remembered it.
I told him I didn’t know much,
and didn’t want to share anything from our alumni group.
Then came the news that broke us all —
L was found.
Brutally murdered.
I won’t share the details.
But I can feel —
in his final moments, he must have suffered greatly.
I felt anger, disbelief,
a helpless ache in my chest.
No human deserves that.
I don’t know what led to it,
but he didn’t deserve to die like that.
Not in pain.
Not so young.
I don’t place much hope in justice —
but I still wish,
one day, truth will find its way.
I’m sorry, my friend.
I didn’t deserve your kindness,
and you didn’t deserve such an ending.
Over the years, I’ve seen so many around me leave this world.
Each time, the sadness dulls a little more.
When you’re alive, people avoid you,
but when you’re gone,
everyone suddenly comes to see you.
Goodbye.
Rest in peace

Earning more than RM6k, haven't paid PTPTN for 5 years? No travel for you
https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/757863
The government has elaborated on its plan to reimpose an international travel blacklist on National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan defaulters.
The Budget 2026 touchpoints document stated that the blacklist will target two categories of borrowers.
The first is borrowers with an outstanding exceeding five years and earning more than RM6,000 per month.
The second group are borrowers who work abroad.
Parliament data showed that as of the end of 2024, the amount owed by borrowers who have not made a single repayment or are not doing so consistently exceeded RM11 billion.
This includes more than RM5 billion owed by those who have not paid a single sen to the fund

“We still see rape cases in schools” – PMX Criticises M’sian Education System, Blames Western Influence
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has criticised the national education system, saying it shouldn't just focus on academics but also on nurturing moral
I love Malaysia, but men… some things make it hard to imagine living there long-term, i want to know ur thoughts
So I lived in Malaysia for 6 months during my Erasmus exchange a year ago and even came back for vacation this year, and honestly… I fell in love with the country. The food, the people, the vibes — everything just felt right. I even met my girlfriend there 😌
so yeah, Malaysia has a special place in my heart.
But now that I’m in France and thinking about maybe living in Malaysia someday, I’m starting to realize a few things that frustrate me a lot, mostly related to work culture and general lifestyle differences.
• Work-life balance: In France, when your workday is over, it’s over. By law, your boss can’t contact you outside work hours unless you literally volunteer or agree to do overtime (which is always paid if agree with company). In Malaysia though, it feels like companies don’t really care about boundaries — you’re expected to reply to messages at night, work weekends sometimes, etc. That would honestly drive me nuts in the long run.
• Leave days: France gives you like 4 weeks minimum of paid vacation (some companies go up to 40 days). In Malaysia, it’s like… 8 to 12 days?? That’s crazy short. I can’t imagine taking just a week off every few months, especially if you value rest or travel( i like to travel a lot).
• Salary: This one hurts. The salaries in Malaysia are way lower compared to France — especially for tech or business roles. I get that the cost of living is lower too, but the gap is still huge. And when you add long hours + limited leaves on top of that, it feels like you’re working more but getting less out of it.
• Employee rights / free speech: In France, you’ve got unions, laws protecting your mental health, and you can speak up if something’s unfair. In Malaysia, free speech seems way more limited, and companies can kinda treat you however they want. Even sites like Glassdoor are basically empty for most Malaysian companies — like no one dares to review anything 😅
I still absolutely love Malaysia, don’t get me wrong. It’s one of the most comfortable and friendly countries I’ve ever been to. But I’m starting to see the “other side,” and it’s frustrating because I want to live there someday… just not sure I could handle the work culture and lack of protections.
Anyone else feel the same way? Especially those who’ve lived both in Malaysia and Europe
how do you deal with that contrast?
