What encryption software do you recommend on Linux?

I'm so overwhelmed by all the apps and programs out there. To put it simple, I would like to use a program which is secure and has a good reputation.

I've already found:
Tomb
Age
Veracrypt
Cryptomator

Do you know any or all of those? What are the differences and which one of those can you recommend and why?

Why You Should Reconsider Playing League of Legends and Valorant: The Risks of Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat Software

I want to spread awareness within the gaming community, it seems many are ignorant and don't care about the kernel-level anti-cheat they just implemented and forced everyone to install.

Taken from this github that describes everything perfectly in length: https://gist.github.com/stdNullPtr/2998eacb71ae925515360410af6f0a32

# TL;DR

When Riot Games introduces the Vanguard anti-cheat to League of Legends, you should STOP playing and you should not install the anti-cheat when you get the pop-up. Vanguard is a kernel-level anticheat and these anticheats operate at a privilege level HIGHER THAN YOUR OWN. The anti-cheat can do things that even you can't do, without asking or letting you know. It's like Riot installing a camera in every room of your house and getting a copy of every key inside.

Here is just one example of what they can do: https://www.theregister.com/2013/11/20/esea\_gaming\_bitcoin\_fine/

So, my work...

So I've just found out that my business disposes sensitive data from their client's right in a bin without even making that data unreadable or destroyed. This documents show businesses names, IP information from networks, SMTP infos... How should I proceed or do in this situation?

What malware exists in firmware in Chinese made products?

Is there any government or industry body in Europe, UK, or North America that does audits/reverse engineering/investigations to see what malware is hidden in products manufactured in China? Considering all the electronic products that are produced there, and how anyone can sell online or via Amazon, is anyone actually tasked with monitoring this - or at least some % of this?

Seems like an obvious national security issue, personal privacy issue, and IP issue (theft).

Anyone know? Thoughts?

I am assuming it is the Wild West and only occasionally does someone stumble into something?

Could an alternative countermeasure be data flooding?

I was thinking about how hard it is to find a quality app that doesnt collect data and had the idea of an app that intentionally floods your data with random data so that it confuses or invalidates the stuff that companies collect. Has this been explored?

Smartphone removable batteries

Anyone else think that the main reason for smartphone manufacturers doing away with user removable batteries, since like 2016 or so, is because they want governments to more easily be able to track us?

case in point, I read this local news story a couple years ago or so, where the cops "pinged" this guy's phone to find out where he was.

It's just that I figure if one removes a battery from a phone, then that phone won't be able to be tracked anymore? am I right.

Just a heads up - Twitter now lets people you’ve blocked read your Tweets.

Thought I’d share here. If you block someone, they can now read your tweets. They can’t reply, DM, retweet or anything, but they can read them. Only solution is to private your page or delete it outright. Fuck E Musk.

Textnow and similar numbers don't work for telegram, WhatsApp, etc. And they don't work for OTP for most social media and email platforms. What's the best way to get a fake number?

If one wishes for a burner number to use for these purposes, what would you recommend?

My phone connected to someone's Ford Bronco while sitting at a red light

I had my maps open with my phone mounted, looked while at a stop light and the whole screen was covered with a white page with the Ford logo. Saying that my email will be associated to this Ford Bronco from now on. The message/page would not go away and kept reappearing when I'd exit out. I had to turn off Bluetooth for it to stop.

Never had that happen before, I thought my phone had been hacked. It was not the normal Bluetooth request pairing notification, the entire screen was a confirmation that my email and phone would be linked to the car.

I don't know how to post the picture but it was so bizarre. If I had clicked "ok/confirm" would my phone have been paired with their car? They'd have access to my messages, calls, music controls etc?

removing all identifying info from a photo?

Need to share a photo of an offender with an employer after a workplace incident but maintaining strict anonymity i.e. no metadata at all. Email is easy but how would I strip the photo - or just an imgur link? I'd prefer it is shared privately with the employer somehow.

Browser canvas fingerprint blocking in Firefox

Hello,

I did a test on a website, that tests how I can be reached by various means.

The by far most unique way to identify me was canvas fingerprinting.

Is there some way to protect against this?

I found a canvas blocking addon, but it did nothing, when I did the test again with the addon enabled.

Disabling JavaScript completely is not an option for me, because it breaks many websites...

“The Hidden-Pregnancy Experiment” - Interesting article I read in The New Yorker this A.M. and knewwww I had to share here!

This article (aptly titled “The Hidden-Pregnancy Experiment”) is ultimately about privacy-related stuff and fits in perfectly on this sub, so I thought I’d share! I won’t share too many details so as not to spoil it for anyone, but the rundown is this:

- Woman finds out she’s pregnant with baby #2.
- This time (presumably unlike last time), she decided to see if she could hide her pregnancy from her phone.
- Her whole experiment rests on her ability to strategically implement A LOT of the same privacy techniques we recommend on this sub.
