leland palmer and his thing with old music
before i start this post, i am writing this a bit buzzed, so if parts of this post dont make sense/im repeating myself, my apologies :,)
this is my first walkthrough of twin peaks and leland has been a character i keep coming back to. what ive been considering recently is based off of him and BOB, where i think BOB represents generational trauma/incest/csa, and how its implied that leland was molested by BOB (whether robertson was really his neighbor and a different person, or if lelands grandfather was possessed by him and projecting his image, like leland would with laura). the usage of old music constantly, it appearing whenever leland seems to be possessed by BOB, all that, i feel like all this music was popular when leland was a kid, when he’d visit his grandfather and would be around robertson. i feel like the usage of old music during BOB possessing leland, its another reference to his own abuse at BOBs hands, and this could go into leland wanting to dance, especially with laura, its like the overarching trauma of leland being abused (especially since leland would do the same to laura, dancing to old music with her, to me its like an indirect reference to abuse, his own unresolved childhood issues turning into repeating the cycle). it appearing whenever BOB does, it feels like its taunting leland, how he will never be over his traumas and how he repeated the cycle. i could be totally off the mark, and ive read and agreed with what other people have said about leland and the music/dancing, like how it feels like a coping mechanism, but i wanted to mention this since i wanna see what other people would think.

Some thoughts on Judy and the existential black hole at the center of it all
TW: Substances (I guess)
Hi all,
Like many of you, I Iove Twin Peaks. I dream very vividly and sometimes get so absorbed in dreams that I become confused for the first few hours when I wake up. Oftentimes I completely forget who I am in dreams and make up an entire new life. So my approach to watching this show is intuitive and this is not a theory per se, just some thoughts. I will use the word "dream" very loosely, as Lynch intended.
So to preface this, I am going to describe a very specific experience I had. It was a very bad and traumatic trip combined with some psychosis which made me feel like I was inside a dream for 3-4 hours. Lost touch with reality etc etc, don't want to get into details BUT one experience that sums all of it up is this: I felt like I was starting to acknowledge the existence of the "Absurd". On our normal state, we go about our day, eat, sleep and it feels like we've built a wall around the "Unknowable", "Infinity" , "Death", call it what you want. Keep it locked inside a nice box.
So, it surfaced from my subconscious to my conscious. This feeling of the absence of any type of actual foundation. Philosophers have probably discussed it to death, but to function everyone HAS to ignore it. But it took the front row in my brain and suddenly taking a shower or eating sounded ridiculous. Working or taking the dog out for a walk sounded even more ridiculous. I tried to do normal things but I felt like I was balancing on stilts while juggling on the 16th story of a skyscraper and then realising that there is no such thing as the "Floor".
This feeling surfaced during the scene with Cooper superimposed over this complete surrealist situation, with Candie's sandwiches and what not. I very strongly felt like I was the observer observing someone else observing something else into infinity.
Jowday felt to me like this feeling of the "Unknowable" personified. I've never felt it depicted better in any sort of media. People seek to understand it, but even trying to understand it will drive you mad and unable to function in every day life. Hawk very accurately said "You don't ever want to know about that" when discussing the symbol. Trying to understand that which is not meant to be understood is I think very central to Lynch's work.
Some other people felt that Jowday symbolises reality to the Dreamer, and I also felt that.

Going back over Lynch’s work after all of Twin Peaks - Dune
Currently watching Dune and not even that far into it and it’s wild the number of things I’m spotting that feel connected. Is he evolving ideas or are his works all interlinked?
Or is he smiling knowing we are all trying to figure out his deeper meaning knowing he never had one and was just trolling us 😂.
1) The space guild navigators remind me of Philip Jeffries kettle thing. There’s a moment where doors in that room open and close that even sound close to the noises Philip makes in S3.
2) First time we meet Baron Harkonen there’s blue roses brought in by a young man. Blue rose is connected to Major Garlands work.
3) The Baron then kills the boy and can be seen to smear blood all over the boys face like the people that revive Mr C when he dies.
I know this movie got panned but visually it’s stunning and I’ve read the book and trying to explain the lore inside one movie must have felt so challenging. No wonder the first time I very first watched it I was baffled who was who and what the hell was going on.
Having read the book it seems to follow it quite well.
I just wish he hadn’t chosen the blocks for their shields as that still just looks clunky and daft.
It’s a bonkers vision and grand in scale and I’m here for it!

I saw 3x08 and, damn, it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen...I need to talk about it
I watched this episode yesterday, and holy shit, it was awesome.
It was so experimental and weird.
The fact that BOB gained access to our world thanks to the atomic bomb is a brilliant idea if we consider him to represent the evil wrought by human beings.
The part of the giant was also beautiful (I think it's him, but in the credits his name is ??????), it reminded me of German Expressionism, and then the close-up of his face looking at us as if judging us, since the point of this episode for me was that evil isn't something that arises from nowhere, but rather that we humans ourselves spread it, and we turn a blind eye to it. I'm curious to see how Laura Palmer's story will evolve.
The part of the woodsman was also incredibly disturbing, although I admit I didn't understand it as much there.
Overall, everything was very beautiful. I hope the season has more episodes like this. I'm happy to know that Lynch left us with this series as his last project. I can't explain how this episode managed to get on TV, because it's too much for TV, it's pure cinema.

My local art institute is showing The Return over 9 different showings
Just got the email. 9 screenings, 2 parts each, over the course of 5 weeks or so. I found out because I'm a member, so check out local arthouse types to see if it's playing near you. I'm very stoked, never thought I'd get to see it at the cinema!
