The excerpts above were written by the same student.

The first is from when Safar, now a student at Agora, wrote his very first reflection. The second? It came after just six classes in our writing program.

At Agora, we take an individualized approach with each student. We identify their unique weak areas and build personalized task plans during dedicated office hours with our instructors. When Safar began, his writing was hindered by grammar issues, overly complex sentence structures, and a disjointed flow. Over the past three weeks, we've focused on refining his grammar, clarifying his expression, and strengthening his reflective voice. His writing may not yet be perfect — but it's improving. And, more importantly, it's improving consistently.

But that’s just part of the story. Alongside personalized support, our students also move through a comprehensive curriculum structured into three distinct, focused phases.

Some may see Safar’s progress as modest. But for him — and for us — it’s a significant step forward. And the best part? We’re not even halfway through the course.

Let us introduce the Obsidian!

Obsidian is a knowledge-management, note-taking tool that we have integrated into the Agora curriculum. It helps our students connect seemingly disparate ideas, find original connections in whatever they have learnt, and visualize the whole process using the graph view feature.

The picture above is from Muslima's Obsidian graph view. She has been using Obsidian to dive deeper into her major since the course started. She says it has helped her see how different concepts in her major are interconnected, taking her understanding from 2D to 3D.

Muslima's Obsidian might be small right now, but her consistency is big. And that's the most important.

Let us introduce the Obsidian! Obsidian is a knowledge-management, note-taking tool that we have integrated into the Agora curriculum. It helps our students connect seemingly disparate ideas, find original connections in whatever they have learnt, and visualize…
Obsidian might be the top-tier tool for knowledge management—but let’s face it:

What do you actually put in the vault?

At Agora, we’ve wrestled with this exact question. Our curriculum is highly individualized—so much so that each student receives a unique reading list tailored to their path of inquiry. But over time, we’ve noticed clear patterns in what fuels the most meaningful growth.

Here’s what they read:
- Dense political theory, literature, sci-fi, and philosophy
- Cutting-edge academic papers (think SSRN.com)
- University faculty publications for deep academic dives
- Pop-culture and ideas magazines like The New Yorker, Aeon, etc.
- Podcasts—because ideas don’t always come on paper

But dumping content into Obsidian doesn’t magically make you sharper. The actual engine of growth is what follows:

Thus they write:
- Reflections. Not just summaries, but thoughtful reactions—whether to Camus or a personal experience.
- Notes that argue, question, connect dots.
- Essays that loop in feedback from peers and mentors.

The result? One finds a clearer view of their conscious.

Sure, the product is new. But even within just a month, it’s already bearing fruit.

📚 Safar followed the full loop—reading → reflecting → feedback → vault-filling—and saw a sharp boost in his writing. Neater structure, more palpable arguments, and improved grammar.

📈 Umar, without grinding SAT prep books, improved his EBRW score from 680(March) to 750(May). Deep reading and reflection might be better than constant all-nighters spent shotgunning SAT practice questions.

🎓 And Muslima is also steadily diving deeper into her major—while expanding her vault with ideas that go beyond just simple arguments.

Small wins, but real. That’s the point. The system doesn’t just look good on paper—it works.

And most importantly, we know the kind of issue many of you are facing: being confused about what to do next.

When you're confused, it's a sign you're about to learn something. Confusion means your brain is reorganizing itself to understand a new concept. Lean into it.
