Some folks have asked in the comments what welder I am using. Here is a link to the little portable red welder you see in the pump house scene and the retaining wall scene. It has served me well for many projects due to its portability.

I installed a 30k gallon metal tank in my backyard so that I can run my entire house on rainwater. Often called a rainwater catchment or rainwater collection system; this has allowed me to avoid using city water and to catch free water from the sky instead. Think of it as a pool-sized rain barrel crammed into my backyard.
If you would like to contact the installer I used (Jeff Sergent) in the central Texas region you can find his contact info at : https://suburbanbiology.com

How to make a hotbed - to get super early crops
For early germination and growing on of seedlings I've looked at a number of different methods, hands down making a hotbed is the most cost effective and efficient way to extend the early growing season. This video show how I make my hotbeds and some temperature data showing how well the hotbed maintains the temperature on cold nights.

Healing Effects of Trees & Forests!
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20074458/
Benefits of Phytoncides on Humans
When humans breathe phytoncides in, they can support us in many ways inside the body.
β’Immune response: a 2-hour walk in the forest increases NK cell activity that can last for days
β’Anti-inflammatory: common forest terpenes temper inflammation and reduce oxidative stress
β’Nervous system: forest air creates a relaxation response and lowers nervous system activity
β’Mood enhancing: exposure to forest air reduces cortisol levels and Ξ²-pinene has antidepressive properties
β’Sleep: phytoncides like Ξ±-pinene enhance sleep
β’Blood glucose: exposure to VOCs can reduce blood glucose levels
https://forestbathingcentral.com/forest-bathing-studies/
Spending time in forests is so beneficial to our wellbeing. We always feel inspired, invigorated and elated after time in the forest. How about you?

Couple builds fulfilling life & homestead on abandoned Nordic island
At 63Β° North β where the midnight sun lingers and winters test endurance at 35 below β a young couple has made a life on a once-forgotten island in Finland.
Ten years ago, Klaus purchased this abandoned 1.5-hectare isle for a modest price. It had been left untouched for 42 years, with only a collapsing 150-year-old log cabin and an old sauna where generations before him had been born.
He saw not ruin, but potential: trees for lumber, land for food, and a place to root a new, quieter, way of life.
Over the years, Klaus taught himself natural building, milling wood from his own forest, carving replacement logs by hand, crafting floors and ceilings, and plastering walls with clay. The dream grew when Johanna joined him, and now the two are preparing to welcome their first child β perhaps in the same sauna where the island's former inhabitants once entered the world.
