Basil Jelly: A Great Use for All of That Basil
Basil jelly is the perfect accompaniment for garlicky buttered bread, morning toast, mixed with cream cheese for a great cracker spread, or used as a riff on the 60s classic meatballs in jelly. For this recipe, I used half-pint jars, but most folks claimedβ¦

This is "chamber bitter", apparently s medicinal plant.
It first stayed growing under my bird feeder, and (without even knowing what it was) I thought it might have been in the seeds themselves, but now it's spreading in ways that suggest the birds may be pooping out the seeds on their way to the feeder.
Chamber bitter is also referred to by other common names such as gripeweed, shatterstone, stonebreaker, and leafflower.
The leaves are large at the tip and smaller towards the petiole, and they close at night and open during the day.
Gonna have to look it up some more.

Friday night forging. Little hook that's longer in the body than I wanted but I'm practicing what skills I had all over again. I'm getting better at fire management and am more comfortable at the anvil. I'm about to forge some wrought iron and see how that goes. It's beautiful material but a bit difficult to forge. It has a lot of junk in it and you have to keep it very hot or it will literally just split apart

Tip for those wanting to learn the ways of blacksmithing. Look for local knife makers and see if they offer classes. You'd be surprised how many shops offer those. All you have to bring is your strength and willingness to learn and they provide the tools etc.

Weeds and What They Tell Us β 15 Septiembre 2012
Ehrenfried E. Pfeiffer
This wonderful little book covers everything you need to know about the types of plants known as weeds. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer discusses the different varieties of weeds, how they grow and what they can tell us about soil health. The process of combatting weeds is discussed in principle as well as in practice, so that it can be applied to any situation. First written in the 1950s, this is still one of the best overviews of the subject available.
